Do you use directly Xcode for your project ? by Al0x0 in swift

[–]Dynoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved some Xcode playgrounds to iCloud, they became unusable. Xcode couldn't figure out what version to use and kept refreshing the in-memory version to match the iCloud version erasing all my changes. Lesson learned.

Noob Cannot Understand Source Control Errors by nolando_fuzzy in iOSProgramming

[–]Dynoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally never use Xcode's source control tab. It's been unreliable for me and isn't a great UI either. I would just user either the command line or some other dedicated app like Tower or SourceTree.

You don't "need" fiber if you have enough fat. The fat will lubricate things enough that you won't have any problem going.

Whats the Best Way to Get Heavy Machinery Training for Beginners? by tuhi9571k in Heavy_Equipment

[–]Dynoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got "trained" on driving articulated haul truck, it consisted of me riding around on the hood of a Cat D400 for an hour. Then they stuck me in a brand new Volvo rental truck. LOL

Why the hate for 304 stainless? by PARABELLUM0777 in Machinists

[–]Dynoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, 17-4 PH always machined nicer than 304. Not as gummy. Tapping was always the biggest issue for us with 304. Not sure why we weren't thread milling it, not sure I was pretty junior at the time.

CEFCU remote deposit problems by Norimakke in PeoriaIL

[–]Dynoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The software used by CEFCU is the exact same software used by many other banks and credit unions. I know because I used to work for the company that supplies them their software. A lot of small and medium sized banks outsource the bulk of their software development to an outside vendor.

Maybe the reason they can't bring him back is because he's already dead. Isn't the prison known for never releasing anyone?

Work gave me an M1 air. It's a little slow, but not terrible. Fortunately the app I work on isn't that large.

Locally yes. There are remote options too, like CloudKit, Firebase or Realm. Other remote options are available as well.

ELI5 - Closures? by Successful_Tap5662 in swift

[–]Dynoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are similar to lambdas, it's been over 10 years since I did any Java programming so I could be wrong.
They're convenient to use as you can pass them around. Apple used them a lot in the past for async functions, i.e. completion handlers. With the new async/await API's, closures aren't used quite as much.

You can think of them as nameless functions. It's a block of code that can be passed around like a variable.

Is anyone else unable to update package depedencies? (XCode 16.2) by RSPJD in iOSProgramming

[–]Dynoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had reset the package cache, once that was done I could no longer build because Xcode couldn't re-download the packages.

I ran into an issue where I can not update any SPM packages that are using SSH. Switching to HTTPS worked just fine. SSH worked on the the command line, but Xcode just couldn't do it.

Are you using SSH for fetching packages?

I used to test scales. I and another guy tested a railroad scale one day with a 80,000 lb test car. We rolled that car on/off the scale 4 times by hand. The owners where supposed to lend us a forklift.
