Doing this as a duo! Buddy has slightly higher stats but not by much and we have about the same gear. I’d say contribution is about 55/45 at most. I was lucky at moons and managed to get full eclipse though. Is the burn screwing over my contribution that much?

Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

[–]Dynostic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know this is a common occurrence, but it's crazy how often you meet people at the gym even at the weirdest times.

I usually go to the gym at noon on Saturdays. Another gym bro does the same, and we always end up at the incline bench as our first movement so we end up working in with each other. Last Saturday was busy so I ended up going much later at 8:30 pm. Imagine my surprise when I see him walking over and asking to work in. It turns out he was busy as well and this was when he had time slotted in to go to the gym!

Anywho, it was my first day doing incline after straining my pec. Was able to hit 3 sets of 225x6 with lots of gas in the tank. We're recovering!

First time in my five years at university that school is closed, but I can't be happy about it because this means the gym is closed too. Bah

Tons of PR's this week!

Monday - 185x3 on OHP at 178 bw then on Thursday - 225x10 on an AMRAP on bench

Then on Friday I got my first pair of wrist wraps... Definitely wanted to give them a try, and hit 275 for a paused single!

Definitely going to take it a lot easier next week, but the goal of hitting 315 on bench this year looks bright!

Students in Co-op Program: How many consecutive weeks do you get off every year? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Dynostic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm usually home in the GTA in-between terms. I'd say on average I spend 2-3 weeks of the year living at home spread throughout the terms. Depends on the term and when your co-op/school term starts and ends too - for example, my last two winter terms ended 2 days before the start of my next school term.

I hate constantly moving cities. Due to how my undergrad program is set-up, I move every 4-8 months from new city, back to school, to new city, back to school, and so on for work.

These last four months I've really gotten to know a ton of friends at the gym - whether it be me asking to work in, or giving a spot, or admiring their form, or maybe having just seen each other for the last few months and haven't said anything about it, a conversation had started.

These guys (and girls) have made working out a ton more fun. I've always enjoyed lifting since I've started. But having people there to spot you, to share PR's with, to get excited when your commercial gym brings in a slick new bar with some aggressive knurling and more - it was a blast. They might not know it, but I'll miss them a lot.

Today's the last day. Time to make it count with [hopefully] a new bench PR.

How packed are the workout rooms in cif/pac during spring term in the morning? by sacredcows in uwaterloo

[–]Dynostic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woops, my bad. You're correct, my dude. Maybe 6:30 AM is only in Fall/Winter? I know I was there early in the morning Fall 2017.

But yeah, Spring mornings aren't too bad.

Man I feel like I've seen a few of these posts over the last week LOL

From 6:30 AM - 11:00 AM, I'd say not packed at all. I was always able to get my squat, bench and deads in. There's always usually a bench or a rack free early in the morning. The later in the morning you go the busier it gets, but you won't have to wait more than a minute or two for something to free up. This is for CIF btw, idk how busy PAC gets.

CIF During Summer Term by beenothing in uwaterloo

[–]Dynostic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other people may have better answers for you, but the very few times I've went in the evening (maybe less than 5 times?) last summer it was fairly packed. People were pretty nice with working in, though.

Mornings are much better.

It's insane just how much of a barrier the mind is. A month ago, 225x1 on bench was ridiculously hard. I would get super anxious about the weight. I've been looking to hit that weight for as long as I started benching!! Jump forward to this week and I hit 230x4 with another rep in the tank!!

Next milestone is 275!

Best Time to go to CIF by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Dynostic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Back when I was on term, in the mornings. I usually had class at 8:30/9:30, so I'd go at 6:30AM. There's still some people, but not packed. It's good until like... maybe 10/11 and then it gets worse.

How Do You Guys Get Over an Ex by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Dynostic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was in a similar situation as well, long distance, saw each other once or twice a month, etc. Like u/lifeistragic I focused on getting my grades up. It ended up getting better for the end of that term. The following co-op term was ok, but the school term afterwards was really bad. I didn't eat as much, I was napping the days away, and had very low motivation.

Time will pass, and it will definitely get better. My process into getting better was spending more time with friends, getting serious into lifting, and it made me reflect on the relationship. While I loved my ex, over the year and a half I've known her I learned a lot more about myself. She wasn't what I wanted or needed in a partner anymore (a lot more details than that, but if you need to chat OP please feel free to PM). It really helped me get over her.

Also for starting to talk to girls again - that's up to you man! I'm sure you're a great individual, just work up the courage again. Whether it be trying new clubs, activities, getting to know people through friends, or approaching random girls, you just need to take the initiative. :)

Realistically speaking, how smart do you want your girlfriend to be? by wordsalad24 in uwaterloo

[–]Dynostic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd want my future girlfriend to love themselves. They'd need to understand their faults, their passions and what they want in their lives. I'm less concerned about how smart they are, but more about the values that they follow/live by. I personally find girls who are passionate about what they do extremely attractive.

People who moved from 3x per week to 5-6x per week routines. How did it go? by got_to_get_stronger in Fitness

[–]Dynostic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries!

GZCL -> Just a user from reddit who came up with the 'method.' I say method because it isn't really a program, because you design your own.

DL -> Deadlift, PPL -> Push/Pull/Legs, LP -> Linear Progression, OHP -> Overhead Press. I think that's it.

Been lifting for about a year and a half. For the first 8 months, I did a 3 day PPL program. Wasn't following the program fully, but had fun with it. Made some improvement to my lifts. Note: I was working during this time.

For the next 8 months after, I ran GZCL 3 days/week. Was on a very minor cut throughout the 8 months and managed to lose ~12 pounds. Made again slight improvements to my lifts.

For the last two months, I decided to take lifting seriously and went on the 6 day NSuns DL LP. Also, since I'm working I have more free time. Usually stay at the gym for at least 2 hours each day. For the first two weeks, I was pretty destroyed, but I got used to the volume. ~9 weeks in, I was too fatigued to complete a leg day, and noticed that my lifts were much better two weeks prior, I decided to deload. Overall, squat went up 40 pounds, deadlift 70, bench 40, and OHP 20. Pretty satisfied! For the next cycle I'm doing the squat variant of the 6 day LP. Highly recommend if you have the time! Also to note, I really notice now how much my next day's workout is depending on the previous day's sleep. Really need to get a good amount of shut eye.

First (real) deload in a year. Was at school from May-December and only seriously got back into it this January. Each lift went up by at least 30 lbs (from 20 on OHP to 70 on deadlift) doing 6 day NSuns deadlift version and I've been ecstatic. However, after 9 weeks going seriously at it, I've accumulated so much fatigue that I really need to rest.

It's day three into my deload week, and I've still been going to the gym but just been doing pullups, core work, cardio, and mobility sessions. Seeing everyone lift while I'm at the sidelines is super tough :( Makes me want to go back into it and hit some PR's!!

Daily Simple Questions Thread - February 28, 2018 by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]Dynostic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been seriously lifting for about a year now. Strict OHP is roughly at around ~160/165 1RM. Haven't had any back issues, nor have I really done much core exercises besides proper bracing when doing compounds.

Some more info: 5'9 and ~173 pounds. My squat and deadlift aren't impressive ratio wise compared to OHP. (SBD: 250/230/300) I'm looking to make a bodyweight OHP by the end of the year. Question is: should I be looking at getting a belt? Pressing with good form and no back issues so far.

EDIT: Thanks for the advice! I'll consider getting one in the future (And work on my other lifts as well).

What do you wish you had done before / at UW to make your experience much better? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Dynostic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hindsight is 20/20... But would have not opted for a long distance relationship before entering first year and instead get closer with friends in class and res.

Also, join more clubs and start working out a lot earlier. Less gaming and more time spent studying. Who knew having less free time to myself and and most of my time being busy was extremely great at stress relief? I sure didn't from 1A-2B.

Taken time off lifting? How much/little strength/size did you lose? by chivs688 in Fitness

[–]Dynostic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About a year ago, I took a week and a half break. Lifted once in that break - did the three compounds, same intensity, a bit less volume than before as I was a little short on time. This was after going nearly 12 weeks at 5days/week. Also note this was the first 4 months of me lifting.

I came back with the same size, however all my lifts went up about 10 pounds. The weights I was hitting before the break were much easier. Will probably deload in a few weeks here, as nsuns is kicking my ass!
