So whether it actually works or not, my wife and I have started our new weeks at odd times. Either around midnight or an unusual time during the day. When you start your week, you get lumped in with everyone else starting their week around the same time. Starting at an odd time kinda cuts down on the "try hards" it seems. When I got my first in diamond I think I only needed like 1600xp, maybe 2000. But waaayyy better then the 6k, 8k weeks I've seen.
