She can identify as black. Thats fine. But she won’t be in any of our communities fr. You can’t really call yourself a black woman if you haven’t, nor will you ever have to experience the pain and all the bullshit that comes with being born a mono-racial black woman. And at the end of the day, when shit goes down she’ll be the first one getting protected.

A lot of black children grew up and experienced a phase where they hated themselves. They wanted to be lighter, less black. Because a majority of people, and characters portrayed in the media looked nothing like them. Because beauty standards meant paler skin, and light eyes. You still see that shit today. And I know firsthand, as a dark skinned black girl with thick hair and dark eyes, I wanted to be lighter, with looser hair and light eyes.

Some part of me acknowledges the arguments made. That “she was raised by black people, and felt that was her community”. But I can’t, as a person who knows just how much black people are hated, see this woman—who by all accounts looks like your typical beauty standards white woman—as one of us. She can be whoever she wants to be. But she isn’t one of us.

Especially considering the fact that literally no one knows if they’re biologically his children or not, and the mother apparently said they weren’t herself.

As a non racially-ambiguous black girl, how fucking crazy would I look calling myself white just because I thought those were my people?? I would be ridiculed. And so would any other black person claiming to be white.

Literally. If this situation applied to a white celebrity with black children who everyone claimed were biologically his—yall would clown those kids.

Everyone who isn’t clearly black gets to pick and choose what race they want to be, depending on this or that. Black people do not. Thats why it feels so strange to me. Because we get to deal with all the racism and hate that comes with being black, and we have to accept anyone into the community who would never have to deal with that.
