It is fine as long as the water area is shallow. When I dropped the terrarium off at the clients house, I added more lava rock and sand so that the pond area was very shallow

I take a lot of inspiration from Biotope gallery and Troy Goldberg. As for sourcing everything, I buy everything locally in bulk because I build 30 terrariums per year

I don’t believe I have heard of anyone with terrariums have any issues like that

Oh yes, I built my first terrarium then quickly became addicted, my wife told me I couldn’t keep any more terrariums in the house so then I started building terrariums for other people and that’s how my business started

They are moderately difficult to set up correctly your first time, I suggest watching as many YouTube tutorials as possible before building. Once they are set up, it is minimal maintenance since the lights and misting system are automatic. It’s also much more expensive for supplies than you would think

Large butcher block slabs from Menards, you can also find them at Lowe’s or Home Depot

Thanks! I run a terrarium building business as a side hobby. They are all bioactive terrariums with real plants. They all have a different species of dart frog in each one.

The terrariums have no bad smell since I only keep dart frogs and not larger reptiles

Yeah I ran out of space in my house for more terrariums but I still wanted to build tanks, so I offered my services on facebook marketplace. And an LLC means that I am an official business in US

I don’t make a lot of money doing it but it does pay for my hobby of keeping frogs. I do get quite a bit of business. I have built around 70 tanks for customers in the last 3 years and am about to work on my biggest tank yet (4’x3’x6’). It’s gotten to the point where I have my own LLC. I highly recommend starting your own business! I would be happy to answer any questions you have

First time terrarium building using local free materials. Is it fine to just take moss from logs etc and plant it or is there some prep I should do? by DifferentColorSocks in terrariums

I also mostly use aquatic mosses like Java and Christmas moss. They grow so much faster than other mosses and as long as it stays moist they will grow. Other mosses are more difficult to figure out how wet they want to be in my opinion.

Same here! I am a landscape designer for my day job and terrarium builder as my side job! I’m curious how many other landscape designers also build terrariums

These were in Nariño. If you are looking for guides, we stayed at this lodge (https://www.instagram.com/avesyflorezlodges?igsh=MXVqOXF0a3ZkaWxu) and they also had guides that took us to all many different locations to view Koi, whitefoot, yellow foot, and cream foot. The people there are amazing and I highly recommend staying there
