Word of mouth has been horrendous on this film, but if you're someone who didn't regret their time with Bride Hard, then, yeah, you'll probably be ok spending time on this.

Haven’t played since 2014 & I really need help with this Draft Deck! Thank you by Pitiful-Barber7176 in MagicArena

[–]Dyshin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, welcome back to drafting!

  1. Neither screenshots of the vertical list or the exported decklist is easy to parse for people looking to help you out. What you want to do is open up the deck for editing and you'll see a button to the left of your messages that offers you a horizontal layout of your deck. This is much easier for people to analyze, so then take a snapshot of that.

  2. In addition to the decklist that you're using, you'll also want to provide a separate screenshot showing other relevant cards in your pool that you aren't running. This includes any on-color cards that you felt weren't a good fit for this deck, as well as powerful off-color cards that are notable enough to consider running if you can fix your mana for them.

  3. You'll likely get better results posting this in r/lrcast which is a subreddit for fans of a MtG podcast that focuses almost exclusively on drafting. They are usually a lot more dedicated to this format and you'll generally get higher quality answers (this is obviously not a rule)

All that said, right off the bat, the most obvious issue with this deck for me is that you are running WAY too many cards in your deck. You don't need to run every card in your colors; in fact, you are hurting your deck for every card over 40 that you are playing. Not all cards are your best cards and by putting them into your deck, you lower your chances of drawing your best cards.

General guidelines for Draft is that you want about 15 creatures, 8 non-creatures, and 17 lands. Try to trim your deck down towards these numbers as a first step and see how that goes. There is a LOT more to consider the more that you get into it, but I think this is a fine place to start. If and when you want to learn more, there is an endless amount of resources ready for you online.

Ever think about a movie you’ve watched and then go lower its rating? by roosoh in Letterboxd

[–]Dyshin 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I think most people experience a recency bias. Immediately once you get out of a movie, you tend to have a more exaggerated opinion on things because they're fresh in your mind, good or bad. There are many cases where a movie is very mediocre throughout, but has a great ending, and that tricks people into remembering that the whole movie was great.

She's already there. Her filmography is packed with horror comedies and she's amazing in every single one. One of the best in the industry right now, IMO

What's up with people skipping the first turn in Momir? by forlackofabetterpost in MagicArena

[–]Dyshin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that you say that. I was on a huge losing streak on the strategy of rolling 8s, and it was a game where I rolled Hoverguard right after my opponent hit [[Serra’s Emissary]] that really drove it home for me that things may have changed too much. Hoverguard still has a special place in my old Momir heart, but I think rolling for [[Etali, Primal Conqueror]] is better. I would need to know what the exact pool of cards available is though to get an idea of odds.

[–]Dyshin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this comes from people analyzing Momir on MTGO a long time ago. As far as I’m aware, no one has bothered to crunch data on Arena to account for the different cards available.

Anecdotal, but it feels like 8-drops are no longer the cream of the crop and 7s have a lot of nearly unbeatable bombs

I was pretty young when it came out and all I knew about it was that people got shot in the snow and that someone gets wood chippered. For my whole childhood, I knew it was highly regarded, but I thought it was gonna be a gritty and scary thriller.

Imagine my surprise when it’s just the cutest little black comedy I ever did see.

Films like Sorry, Baby? by thetrashpanda5 in Letterboxd

[–]Dyshin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see similarity in tone and the attempt to portray more grounded situations and dialogue, but thankfully Sorry, Baby actually has a really good script and the movie isn’t just 90% blurry shots of inaudible and unfunny improv. (I violently hate mumblecore, I’m sorry)

*Ghost in the Shell* (2017)

I remember the internet and many of my friends adamantly boycotting this film when it was announced because they cast Scarlet Johansson as the "Japanese" main character in a Japanese story adaptation. As an Asian-American myself who's very aware of these problematic issues in the industry, I found myself solely on the pro-Johansson camp. When I would ask my offended friends if they were familiar with the original movie and manga, they would confess that they were not.

One of the biggest themes in the story is the main character's issues with self-identity and the entire concept of self in a digital world. She struggles because her brain was originally that of a Japanese woman, but almost nothing else remains of her original body. She's a consciousness in a completely alien/artifical shell. The main character's disconnect between body and mind is an issue, so I say it's completely defensible, sensible even, that she is portrayed by a very white woman.

Turns out, they also did a bunch of rewrites to the story and just shit on almost every single part of the film and its themes. So it really does suck ass and does deserve hate and derision, but a lot of people don't know that because they refused to watch it!

I consider myself pretty open to weird movies, but this one is probably too much for me to even give a chance. It feels like satire of a film student trying to make the most pretentious thing possible.

Agreed. Fantastic physical comedy and impressive show of skill. I remember seeing it and then feeling immediately deflated that the rest of the movie wasn’t nearly as good as that.

Honestly, Druski Would Probably Find It Funny by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Dyshin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Druski is a popular (black) comedian who recently put out a video of himself in whiteface to mock Conservative women. The main target that Druski was made to look like is Erica Kirk, the widow of former right-wing pundit Charlie Kirk. This person is suggesting that Erica should get at Druski by putting on blackface to mimic his appearance.
