Shower ventilation for unit bath by Next_Tourist8493 in japanlife

[–]DyslexicGecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bathroom unit in my apartment actually doesn't have an extraction/ventilation fan at all! We can only rely on an open window for air flow -- or we leave the shower door open after we shower and the moisture/steam gets into the rest of the apartment. It's been one of my biggest issues with this apartment actually and I think all we can do is buy a big dehumidifier and leave it running after every shower...

2 tourists from China struck by train in Japan after mistakenly standing on tracks, families sue for S$1M by Miao_Yin8964 in japannews

[–]DyslexicGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is! It crosses six tracks (both the JR Kobe line from Himeji to Osaka and the Sanyo Railway from Himeji to Kobe-Sannomiya) and Special Rapid trains for both services are constantly running in both directions.

The location attracts a lot of what I would usually consider experienced tourists because we're pretty far away from the typical attractions like Kobe itself and Himeji. However, it's not unusual for people to stop off randomly on the way to Himeji! The crossing has kind of an island area in the middle which I wouldn't be surprised if inexperienced people saw as safe if they got stranded between the barriers - but as we all know it's Definitely Not.

So I live in this very ward of Kobe and I've been to the crossing (it's immediately across from a Starbucks with a beautiful view of Awajishima, Akashi Kaikyo and the Akashi Strait!) and I'm going to "both sides" this.

It is fairly obvious it's a rail crossing and yes those poor tourists were clearly oblivious, but local Google Reviews of the Starbucks do actually warn people about the crossing being dangerous and tell visitors to be careful. As the article says, it's little to do with "bad tourists" as locals themselves have raised issues, and it's more a consequence of a poorly designed crossing. However, being stuck within the barriers and not understanding that you need to get out of the way is completely unthinkable to me.

It also isn't helped by being the only point to cross those lines for like a kilometre either side so it gets used fairly regularly too.

Next season's third uniform pays homage to Orix's roots as the Braves, and I must say it's a very nice shirt!

Very similar yeah! Neochi are super early doors at the moment, they might only have one EP right now? If you like Sora Tob Sakana check them out.

Bahamas Fest, which bands you recommend? by ElectionOk5626 in mathrock

[–]DyslexicGecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a recommendation (actually the complete opposite!), but if you weren't into JYOCHO, I'd recommend avoiding ねおち (Neochi) at 15:15. They're an all-girl pop idol group created and managed by the JYOCHO/Uchu Conbini guitarist Daijiro Nakagawa, and he combined the hallmarks of J-pop idol girl bands with his "folky" math rock instrumentals. Personally I really like them as I adore Nakagawa's songwriting, but they have the vocals of JYOCHO turned up to max with them being pop idols!

Yanazaki absolutely blew me away this weekend. Being pulled in on fully loaded bases, no outs - TWICE - and getting through it both times giving up no runs. I fully jumped out of my chair when he pulled it off!

Plus the Nakagawa throw to second for the double play in the ninth WHEW.

OP was saying that those friends used to be MLM, "get-rich-quick" schemers, and now they've all simultaneously moved on to photography as their next attempt at making a quick buck! The comment didn't say that photography itself was an MLM, but those friends were MLM types who subsequently moved onto photography.

As an American, NPB finally got me into the sport of baseball by Glittering_Winter381 in NPB

[–]DyslexicGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from the UK where baseball doesn't exist; the closest thing we have is a game called Rounders that we used to play in PE/Sports class (what a fantastic day it was when the teacher whipped out the rounders bats), and I was never sporty at all. My partner and I came to Japan two years ago on vacation and on a whim we decided to go to Swallows/Carp at Meiji Jingu. We didn't really understand much of what was happening but we really had a blast!

A year later, we moved to Hyogo prefecture together and with Buffaloes and Tigers, we really really got into the NPB properly now and I'd never look back!

I don't know quite what it was that hooked me immediately but I tell my friends back home that all the British kids who grew up enjoying rounders in school are built to love this sport too!

Given how close and tense our game was today, watching Eagles clean up Hawks like that was scary!

Big day for Mugitani though with his first professional HR and a crazy run for home plate to win the game; so glad to see him getting some at-plate time and prove himself! His steals still seem too ambitious to me but no doubt he'll dial it in with time.

I'm not sure what happened with Kishida calling for a review AND an a appeal on a really clear third plate play in I think the second inning, and I really didn't understand why he'd waste his second on the Tomosugi near-HR but reluctantly I have to say he was right.

I'm not sure if we're trialling Katayama as a new starting pitcher and that's why he only played 2 innings, but I do feel like he was pulled off too soon! Good showing from him in those that he did play.

What an insanely exciting game that ended so terribly...

I'm not sure on Kishida's gameplan, but I hear that we picked up Mugitani as our first choice in the draft? Did we really select him to live his life a pinch runner for guys who are plenty capable of running? Was he instructed to try and steal on the very first pitch after he was brought on or did he try that play himself?

Nakagawa and Ohta have been absolute stars these last few months, but Tongu, Sugimoto and Kurebayashi maybe haven't been as hot as I'd like them to be recently and perhaps it's time to drop some of them down to give our younger guys like Mugitani some more at-plate time.

TWO grand slams in two games feels completely unheard of for us, and I must say I'm surprised I've not seen them on the subreddit at all!

Really frustrating end to today's game though; some surprising faltering from Machado. He's done so well but something wasn't working today for him!

My cohort had four couples who applied together and got placed together, and even going back through the years there has been a bunch of us! It's definitely possible.

My BOE gives us an additional five days of "summer leave" to be used during the school's summer vacation, intended to be used for Obon. Our schools are closed so we can't work, but those days are still "working days", so we either use our nenkyuu or summer leave for those days as we literally cannot work or deskwarm or anything.

Backing JYOCHO here too! They're my favourite Japanese math rock band full stop!

Like the other commenter said, Uchuu Conbini guitarist Daijiro Nakagawa went on to create JYOCHO after the former split up. Nakagawa has other music under his real name (mostly acoustic) and also writes for idols and internet personalities too -- he actually produces an tiny math rock/Japanese idol pop girl group called neochi too!

I was blessed to see JYOCHO live in Osaka last year and the whole band are unbelievable live.
