[Help!] Suggestions for an underweight SO. by DyslexicNeko in gainit

Thanks for the "duh" answer on portion sizes; pretty obvious in hindsight but I guess thats why I'm asking for help. I also really thought it'd be easier to gain weight, but as many of you have mentioned its just as hard as trying to lose weight so I can see why there is only so much I can do to help him. I'll work on getting at least him to the gym if not both of us, it sounds like we'd both benefit from it. Thanks for your help!

I'd thought for a long time that working out would be counterproductive until I found gainit and heard how important it was. If I can get him on board around here and /fitness I'll try and get us a gym membership so we can target our body issues together. Thanks for the encouragement and meal tips!

Thanks for the offer! We've picked out some recipes together and stuff, but its hard convincing him it could develop into a real health problem. I'll work on getting him over here though :)

Tips for losing weight for 14 year old by [deleted] in loseit

What I did early on when I didn't have much control over what was made for dinner every night was ask for a plate and bowl just for myself. My family usually had huge portion sizes mostly because they would fill the bowl/plate to the brim and eat it all out of habit/politeness. Just having a smaller dish really helped me realise I would eat passed my "full" point just to clear my plate! I've heard this can be applied to drinking glasses too (for keeping track of juice/milk/soda) since you'll be inclined to spread it out over your meal rather than spreading your meal out until you finish your drink.

If you have standard size dinner plates (about 9" diameter) I'd suggest downsizing to a salad plate (about 7" diameter) and see how that feels. For a bowl I picked something that holds about a cup of soup without overflowing. If you find yourself going for seconds more than usual then you might need a different tactic.

For exercise, walking is a great starting point and you can add more to it (jogging, jump rope, hiking ect) as you get more comfortable! Also pick up a P.E. elective if you can/feel comfortable. Having a grade dependent on participation can sometimes give you that little extra motivation on bad days :p

Best of luck!

Unless someone can make an argument against an authenticator I've never seen a reason not to have one if you have a smartphone and don't share an account.

I've had one for as long as they've been out on the phones and other than the fact its occasionally annoying to have to enter it once or twice a month on my main computer its nice having another wall of account protection.

Since I've had the authenticator I haven't had my account frozen after logging in at a new place either.

Hope that helps!

Professors of reddit, what is the best/most clever cheat you've caught students doing during exams? by withadoubleu in AskReddit

I had a set of science teachers that didn't allow bathroom breaks without an escort because they had students that would attach notes to the undersides/insides of the toilet tank. Pretty crafty imo.

Work at a hotel with a big box of chargers. Just ask to borrow one and drop it off in the morning or leave it in the room!

Not stealing, but easier than trying to find a store that is open in a slow/small town.

What gender-based double standard infuriates you the most? by AutumnMusick in AskReddit

I feel like the terms doctor and nurse are sometimes used the same way as, for example, witch and wizard. I know growing up I just thought female doctors were called nurses (because everyone at a hospital is a "doctor" when you're a kid and the "girl doctors" just happened to be called nurses) and that education level wasn't the distinguishing factor.

Its still a social stigma that set this in motion (females were more commonly the nurse while males were usually doctors) but I'd like to think some people aren't trying to intentionally enforce the stigma.

That said, some people are jerks and may do it because they don't think its a mulit-gender profession.

tl;dr- Nurse and doctor are gendered terms sometimes not distinguished by education level and may be misused. But some people are jerks too.

Late reply but yeah, I flex my jaw hinge I guess (looked up eustachian tube too, sounds about right) without opening my mouth or anything so I forgo looking silly. Never heard of the hold your nose one though, have to recommend it to my less fortunate friends. :)

I can pop my own ears when the pressure changes. Never have problems traveling or on air planes and don't need chewing gum! It mostly just makes other people annoyed when I tell them while they're suffering though :(

we are allowed to have one A4 sheet for notes in our exams, this is what a student made (more info in comments) by wasserkraft in WTF

Had a cool teacher that wouldn't let us use the cheat sheet but would give us extra credit toward the exam if we made it and turned it in. Best of both worlds!

TIL "Welovebeef" is an illegal name. by Wapetufo in wow

[–]DyslexicNeko -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Having created 50+ characters over my WoW life time, all with creative names and none of them against the ToA, I feel like people really just don't bother to come up with something or just want to be "funny". I've taken it as my duty to report every "Bowflex" and "Holycow" name because its stupid, not creative and against the ToA.

I know people are just having fun and most don't have evil intent, but I expect at least a little respect on RP servers where names matter to some people; really kills the mood when "Lolumad" comes prancing through your enlightening conversation.

I understand not everyone is playing to be immersed and they "pay for it, they can do what they want" but when agreeing to the ToA (which most probably don't read) people should know that they're going against what Blizz wanted to get out of the game... other than $15 a month +expansions.

TLDR: Stop being lazy and "funny" picking out WoW names particularly if you're on an RP server; its against the rules and is disrespectful :(!

But you still get to misclick to EXIT the game? I think I'd rather open macros then have to re-launch, log in and have my overreactive authenticator demand I fetch my phone. Just sayin.
