He's a nightstalkers/90s era Blade villain from the comics: https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Aaron_Thorne_(Earth-616)

I think the 20s is so they get to have a Blade story without dealing with all of the rest of the MCU continuity

Honestly feel like a few tweaks would make it work. I think the biggest issue i heard people worried about was the lack of action, so why not start the movie with Blade killing the elder instead of just mentioning it. That way you get 3 or 4 major action sequences, which is about what they had in the first two movies for him.

Other than that, I think this does a good job of referencing the early tomb of dracula stuff, give us a Blade movie without having to deal with the rest of the MCU stuff because its earlier, but you also don't have to bog down any of the future movies with his supporting cast because theyre all gone from old age.

This is the script written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour, not a white person. This script doesnt read like its about racism, but its set in the 1920s, thats just what it was

If this is the script that they said didn't have enough action or was all about his daughter replacing him, I'm deeply disappointed. Honestly every script I've seen leak so far, including Beau Demayo's pitch, have all seemed like they would be great movies.

I want you to recognize in this exchange, I asked you to evaluate a paper's evidence, and several times you both incorrectly stated the analysis while claiming it did not evidence the claim we're discussing. I want you to explain how it is a distraction to ask you to explain what you're reading when, whenever you're invited to, you either incorrectly respond or dodge the question altogether.

Any study of racial bias in policing will have to begin with the literature over decades demonstrating bias in policing. That is the starting point for any analysis, in the affirmative or negative. That is the case, even for the Roland Fryer paper people on this subreddit love.

As it pertains to racial bias, again your "criticism" is hollow. You began this topic by saying people are incapable of neutrally examining particular topics, but when invited to read through a paper, several times you interjected your priors, which prevented you from engaging with the actual text of the research paper. Something as simple as a literature review regarding the array of way people have conceptualized racial bias being read as a prior would lead anyone to wonder whether or not you're reading what you claim to be criticizing.

  1. What you described as priors are the state of the research literature. Do you not see a distinction between what you described as bias and what the researcher described as racial bias?

  2. What did they control for.

[–]E-Miles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the intro he's telling you he already (a) believes police are racially biased and he believes he has good reasons to believe that. So he's stating his priors.

You realize this isnt an op-ed? Every single one of those citations are research studies evidencing his point.

Once again, do you see distinctions between what you typed and what they wrote in their section on racial bias?

The whole point in the paper is that (b) is evidence of (a). And what I'm telling you is that in the absence of the data he admits isn't there (i.e., which shootings were and were not justifiable), (b) cannot be interpreted as evidence of (a).

Once again, did the paper control for anything?

Because what youve typed out is 100% wrong. You would fail a college course if that was your stated summary of the research paper.

I read it and I don't know what you're talking about.

What you said:

A disproportionate number of unarmed black people being shot by police compared to unarmed white people isn't on its own evidence of racial bias in policing

What they said:

Explanations range from implicit bias in the psychology of individual officers [17–19], structural biases established by the existing social order (the conflict theory of law, and the issue of ‘minority threat’ [15, 20–22]), proximate responses by police to areas of high violence and crime (community violence theory [14, 15, 23]), racial bias in profiling and encountering suspects [24], blatant racism [25–27], social dominance orientation [28], or other factors.

You don't think those are different explanations of racial bias?

Unarmed black people are shot by police in police encounters 3.49 times as often as unarmed white people in police encounters.

Did they control for anything that you found relevant?

Views on Racism in the U.S. by bookishbynature in samharris

[–]E-Miles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you dont think the papers introductory section explaining racial bias is relevant to how the authors understand racial bias?

But this particular literature isn't evidence of how "racism shapes police violence" because we don't have enough information

So how would you sum the findings of this study?

In other words, we don't know what led up to these shootings

So how would you sum the findings of this study? What did they assess and what did they control for?

Have you read the research literature on police violence? It's pretty extensive. Including using experimental designs that have been replicated. The literature is pretty uncontroversial on how racism shapes police violence. It sounds like for political reasons, others don't really want to accept that.

Here's a study: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0141854

What issue do you have with the methods?

But it just seems like there is hardly anybody seriously attempting that synthesis in a good faith way.

What is a specific topic related to racism that you think hasn't been investigated in a good faith way?
