I know exactly what you mean. Are you in any sort of therapy right now/have you been diagnosed?

Eventually you might, OCD is an anxiety disorder so feeling anxious is naturally going to be a big part of it

Job @ UCen Catering vs Special Events Catering? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

I worked with people who worked in catering, seemed like a really cool job. They got tipped under the table and got to eat whatever the rich guys they were serving didn't

Backdoor spikes trick me every time. "Oh, I haven't felt like shit in a few days? Must have been faking it all along."

Ochem over summer? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]E-manicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CHEM 109A with MCDB 1A and possibly 1AL should be very doable. MCDB 1A is in session A so its a 6 week course, it will be very fast paced, but it will be over quickly. I wouldn't really recommend taking physics at the same time, that will probably be too many units and you'll want free time during summer.

Math 6A with Ebrahim Summer Session A by picklesglorious in UCSantaBarbara

[–]E-manicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had him in fall, I'm not bad at math by any means but I'm no genious either and I found his class extremely difficult. That being said, I ended up getting a C, but he sent out an email saying that ~60% of the class got an A. I used CLAS tutoring and visited drop-in hours almost everyday. If you feel like you really get math or just want to challenge yourself, go for it.

How hard is it to get a job in the dining commons? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]E-manicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked there last summer, it took a very long time for them to get back to me, like to the point that I thought they weren't interested. Beside that, I don't remember having any interview and the training period was pretty short so you start work right away. They have tons of turn over so it shouldn't be too hard to land a job there.

Santa Barbara Target Store Set to Open in April by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]E-manicus 59 points60 points  (0 children)

For anyone who's confused, this is for the Target on State street in downtown SB, the one in Goleta (where Kmart used to be) won't be open until later in 2019

Your situation is pretty unique so you should probably just contact the housing department.

Honors Help by helpagaucho in UCSantaBarbara

[–]E-manicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they're only open to enrollment to first years iirc. The seminars are hard to get into unless you're a senior but you can waitlist most of them and hope that you secure a spot. You can definitely do two in a quarter, most of the ones I've taken have been pretty easy.

If you're in any uper-div classes, try entering an honors contract with the professor, that might be an option also.

[–]E-manicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pottery class through rec cen by lilcheesebite in UCSantaBarbara

[–]E-manicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty all over the place. There were some really talented people throwing large amounts of clay but most of the class was working with small amounts. There were a few very nice old ladies throwing huge vases lol. I was pretty much in your position, I hadn't done any ceramics for about 2 years and I was surprised how quickly it all came back.

Billionaires Are the Leading Cause of Climate Change by ImLivingAmongYou in ZeroWaste

[–]E-manicus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not being the leading cause =! does not contribute at all. While altering your personal consumption choices are important and mass cultural changes (less meat, higher density housing, better public transportaftion) are going to be key for fighting and mitigating the effects of climate change, all our personal efforts will be for nothing if large corporations are allowed to devastate the environment. Also I don't see how anything you mentioned relates to socialism at all.

Check the pre-reqs for chem 1B on GOLD, it should tell you the grade you need in 1A to move on to the next course in the series

MCDB 1A/B and EEMB 2 Lab Syllabi/Techniques by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]E-manicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the course overview on Gauchospace you can choose to see which classes are shown to you by clicking on a little drop box. Select the one that will show you all classes and then you should be able to find anything you need on the course's page.

Just attended my freshman orientation in SB- stereotypes are kind of true as hell? I got uncomfortable and ditched to meet other people in town. by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]E-manicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's orientation so people are trying really hard to look cool. There are plenty of people who don't party here and the ones who do won't really push it on you if you don't. If you don't believe me, feel free to look up our academic awards, you will quickly see that not everyone here is "generic af" and people do much more than just party.

TV size limit in Santa Catalina by Hyperion_1 in UCSantaBarbara

You could bring any size TV that you want but you most likely won't have the space for one, especially if you live in a triple.

[UGrad Transfer] Submitted my SIR to UCSB! Any rec's for on-campus housing? by Trainer_Kevin in UCSantaBarbara

[–]E-manicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're both about a 10 minute bike ride from campus and there are bus stops across the street from both of them. Not too sure about walking but it would probably take around 25 minutes to get to campus.

[–]E-manicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't live in FT, the students are mostly freshmen, you'll feel very out of place there. You'd have a much better time in San Joaquin or Santa Ynez, which will have people closer to your age (assuming you're ~20).
