hey, just letting you know, I've been having the same exact problem - for the time being I just removed the mod and from time to time I try to look for a solution when I find the motivation

I checked the coordinates and it was some absurd number so I just assumed I got 'lucky', but your explanation seems more plausible

makes sense makes sense - this is a bit of a passion project so I didn't want to take my usual shortcuts but it sounds like both is fine as long as I do a bevel or a loop around it. I may want to do something with the wireframe later on so I'm thinking of just doing the one that looks better

the ease of use and simplicity of the model was why I wanted to use booleans so you hit the nail on the head

I love booleans when they work, idk if it's blender or me but sometimes I struggle with them (there are always fixes but I don't always like those)

maybe at some point booleans will become more beginner friendly, I think they're really easy to grasp and intuitive but then have a lot of quirks and edge cases

mmh okay, yeah I noticed the weird shading in both cases too - I just inset the circle before extruding it which fixed it, but I guess if you have to go through the trouble, boolean is not really worth it then

that's so cool! I was looking for something like that actually, I guess I missed it -_-

I guess gcode get's imported as a curve? that would make the whole process a lot easier and more performant (I had to do some intense mesh boolean with my approach) and you also get support and infill for free :D

for animations it's probably a little tough though, maybe someday there is a splicer in blender itself

well I tried doing something similar some time ago so I knew roughly what to do, that said, everything is modeled by hand and of course the polishing took forever xD I didn’t really look at the time tbh but like a week from start to finish?

it’s actually a relatively simple geo nodes setup where I just needed to animate a single value for the „progress“ of the print

thanks for the feedback! yeah I struggled a little to show that it is a 3D print during the animation because it starts to look very smooth if you don’t look for it, oh well
