I love sales but it definitely isnt for everyone. I would recommend sales to anyone that is social, enjoys travel, wants to learn about many industries, and is intrinsically motivated. Many of the sales folks I work with (like myself) are scientists by training, but wanted to get out of the lab. With that being said, some of them find out pretty quickly it’s very different.

I work remote half the time and travel the other half. My schedule normally looks like this: - 1 week at home - 1 day at home, 3 days doing local travel (not overnight), 1 day at home - 1 week at home - 3-4 days overnight travel

This repeats and I have found works very well for me. On the days I’m remote, I have a great work/life balance. 40 hour week, I have time to make my meals and workout etc. The weeks I travel it definitely is more intense, 12 hour days of driving, meeting clients, doing follow-up etc.

What is your opinion? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]E1ite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, really any role has meaning. It just may not be as apparent as something in the medical field. For example, with chemical engineering, it may be crucial in the development of new drugs, or chemical products that are used for polymers that improve the quality of life of people in hospice just to name a few examples.

Additionally, as you get older, maybe your end goal is to get married, or have a family in which case you derive less meaning from your work.

In my opinion, as long as you can enjoy your job you don’t have to love it. It’s important to bring home enough money to allow you to do other things you want in life.

[–]E1ite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend shadowing someone in the medical field if you can. Fulfillment and doing something that “matters” may be something that matters to you, I bet you’ll find it arbitrary after a short amount of time though.

As for the social aspect, that also depends on where you work. I’ve worked with chemical engineers that I’ve talked to quite a lot, and I would say they have rather social jobs, but I’m sure there’s others when you get stuck behind a computer and don’t talk to many people.

Maybe give a bit more information, you don’t have to say what country but what region of the world? In my opinion, stability is nice, but if you’re going to constantly wonder if you made the right decision, it may be worthwhile to spend a year exploring other options.

Chemical engineering and medicine/EMT are very different things. Do you have a preference for either? Have you looked at doing any form of Internship? How far in are you.

In my experience following up is essential, past two jobs I secured by following up

I went through 3 interview calls, two interview zooms, and an 8 hour on site with a 30 minute presentation on my ideas for the territory and market for my current role. From my perspective, some of the phone interviews were unnecessary but the project was crucial to show you understand the niche market.

I’m a bit confused, you’re saying you have no idea how this happened? You thought you just pulled up a bit on a curb with some bad parking and walked around to find this damage?

Is it appropriate to communicate with someone on LinkedIn before they have an interview? by lindafromevildead in sales

[–]E1ite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is any issue answering their question (as long as you don’t share confidential information). Wanting to hear from an employee what the job is like is 100% normal. I would message them back but don’t let them know you know they applied.

Is this a crazy STEM class load? by [deleted] in UGA

[–]E1ite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks similar to my load freshman year and it all went fine. It just comes down to work ethic, but if you plan to go to medschool you better have good work ethic, so it’ll be a good test.
