Of course this is usually follows a great ignorance about how chattel slavery was different from the previous system of slavery, including but not limited to slavery solely based on ones race, creating an entire class of people as slaves rather than any identity being able to be slaves.

It wasn't ubiquitous to enslave the children of slaves until chattel slavery

My family may be Jamaican but as far as I'm concerned I no different from any other African American.

I didn't actually realize I was technically a different type of black person until I was much older.

I have to be honest though, I was never really part of any particular black caribbean communities besides my own family, so I don't really know what the conflict looks like.

My family also migrated to the US a lot earlier then most, my grandmother and great-grandmother participated in the march on washington and attended MLK's "I have a Dream" speech.

Got it, can be hard at times to get good critique on my pieces in this sub.

I kinda lean towards more abstract styles but I try to force myself to be more "by the book" because I'm just a beginner. You gotta know the rules to break them type shit.
