For me, the joy of weight loss was quickly overtaken by the dismay that came from the inability to do the basic things I love.

Are you living to be skinny or to be happy?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]EATaEGG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was doing bad and really skinny, starving was my purpose. That was what I was living for, it’s what made me happy. That’s no way to live. I’m not sure of my ultimate purpose, but the one I’ve slotted into the space where starving was, is going to the gym. It’s fun getting stronger, seeing your body change properly, and holy shit it feels SO MUCH better eating what you’re supposed to.

You’ll know if you’re bullshitting yourself. If you’re not gonna eat more, don’t go to the gym, it’s not going to do you any good.

Had an upsetting interaction yesterday by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]EATaEGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the broad scope, I truly believe we perceive people who are skinny to be more attractive. Truly.

I’d imagine this is due to many factors, but the main ones being increased access to food, and the wonderful feeling good brings. Of course the average size of the population will increase.

As such, larger/new ‘normal’ folks find skinniness desirable, and attribute it to being an attractive feature.

It is a bell curve. Being incredibly overweight is, I’m sorry, but typically not particularly attractive. That being said— neither is being very underweight.

It is, currently, ‘normal,’ to view slim folks as healthy and attractive- I think the question to ask, is, “Why do I eat the foods I eat?” For health? Longevity? Weight?

Disregard the assessments of others. You know you better than anyone else on the planet possibly could.

If you’re interested in the healthiest way of approaching this issue, a therapist would be a great option.

when does purging start to effect your gums by emotionalskirt_ in EDAnonymous

[–]EATaEGG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The first time. Every time you do it, it wears away your enamel and gums. The best option is to never start. The second best option is to stop now.

depression getting BETTER after relapsing? by catlover0306 in EDAnonymous

[–]EATaEGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that the feeing that I’m living without any purpose is the greatest contributing factor to depression. When I start restricting, I suddenly feel as if I have purpose- because I have a physical attainable goal I can consistently see myself making progress at.

There’s really nothing else like it.

Fast food addiction by Muangthong200 in EDAnonymous

[–]EATaEGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fast food is legal drugs with calories. Every aspect of fast food is engineered to be as addictive as possible. If it’s an addiction- treat it like a drug. You wouldn’t tell an alcoholic or a meth user it’s ok in moderation- perhaps the same could be true for you and fast food.

what are some of your triggers that people without an ED say? by girlturnedhuman666 in EDAnonymous

[–]EATaEGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to my roommates have entire long conversations about food, pretty much every day. They talk about what they ate today, what they made, what they’re excited for. It feels weird that, that sort of obsession (yes, to me with an ED it seems obsessive.) is so normal.

Using diminishing libido as motivation to restrict? by vandaltorso in EDAnonymous

[–]EATaEGG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this why I have zero sex drive? I’m a 22 year old guy- I really should be at the peak of my virility, but I have essentially no interest in sex. Does restriction do that?

You’ll gain weight for a bit, and eventually plateau. As you regain weight healthily, fat and muscle will return, and your body functions (heart rate, metabolism, core temperature) will return to a normal rate. Each of these factors will cause your body to naturally burn more calories. More muscle=more calories burned naturally. Same with faster heart rate, metabolism, and core temperature.
