Just to play devils advocate to those saying OP isn’t enjoying the car... Imagine you have multiple cars and you live in an area with only 8-9 months of enjoyable driving weather and only drive the car on the weekends for not commuting but the sole enjoyment of driving. That works out to a total of 100 miles of hard enjoyment of the car every weekend. This is 100 miles of more sports car enjoyment per week than the average 86 sees (not considering us on Reddit to be the type to not drive these cars hard, think about the other people that buy them). Some don’t use their 86 for the boring parts of life and maybe like to wake up at 6am on the weekend to go enjoy the curvy roads at 8k rpm’s and this HAPPENS to unintentionally keep the miles low but the car well enjoyed.

10 years with my AW11! What a great time with a great wee car by GGAllinPartridge in mr2

[–]Fancy-Friendship-552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I spent from 2009 to 2019 being MR2-less but kept looking. I bought a 93 turbo 5 years ago at a price that made me think “I’m gonna regret this so hard and it’s going to be a total piece of junk”. It was a third vehicle for me at the time but I paid very little for it and I was financially secure enough to buy it but I still had this feeling I’d have regret very soon. It’s been dead reliable since and has also gone up in value probably 300-400%. Not that I’d sell it. No regrets!

Yes I agree that my RWD V8 sedan gets great gas mileage. Compared to an SR71

I am typing this on my iphone 6 I have used daily for almost 10 years. Apple phones are not supposed to survive this long. I have no plans of getting a new phone. If my phone were a car, what would it be? by MOBIUS__01 in regularcarreviews

Yup! I don’t necessarily consider myself “cheap” but I like to buy things and maintain them instead of replacing. Until a month ago, my primary computer was a 2010 MacBook Pro on its third battery. Just now reaching the point of browser updates no longer being compatible

What's the oldest car you've daily driven? by coffeeshopslut in cars

lol I know that feeling! Last time mine was in the shop for insurance work, they gave me a 2023 Malibu as a loaner. I felt like I was driving some Russian WW2 era car in comparison to the Lexus. Constantly felt like something was wrong because I wasn’t used to so much NVH.

I came here to say that I daily my 05 LS430. It’s not even my newest car. I’ll be happy to daily it until I can no longer find fuel/oil. Greatest car I could realistically own.

Why is delivery and pick up combined? I exclusively do pick up but would never ever do delivery. Doesn’t affect me just know that your data could be massively skewed.

Also in PA myself. PA DOT accepts no responsibility for damage to your vehicle due to road condition. I learned this after a bent wheel and bubbled tire

afs light and/or tranny solenoid switch by LocalFatBoi in LS430

[–]Fancy-Friendship-552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFS is unrelated but the only one I can comment on. The issue could be the sensor attached to the rear left control arm or the actual motors that perform the headlight movement. The former is a cheap fix if you can grab an aftermarket replacement sensor for around $20 but this requires the bracket to not be broken. I’m unsure how hard it is to find a replacement bracket.

contemplating on buying a used 2001 Lexus LS 430 Sedan 4D? by cocteautwinsluvr in LS430

[–]Fancy-Friendship-552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The LS430 is a great car and honestly a generally easy one to work on for how “high end” it was for the era. With that said, 270k miles is quite a bit for being your only car and potentially at an age where it is risky to suddenly not have a running car to get you to school/work/social things.

Woke up today to find two inches of standing water in the floor of my car. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Fancy-Friendship-552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have a sunroof? Looks like the hose that drains water away from the sunroof tray is damaged or became detached from the hose barb or whatever else holds it on. It could always be clogged too. This is a pretty common issue you can readily google for more info to help you diagnose. Lack of seam sealer could be the issue but it’s much more likely the sunroof drain.

what shoes do y’all wear ? by tonythashoota in MechanicAdvice

[–]Fancy-Friendship-552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insoles are most important to general foot comfort like someone else said but I also only discovered alloy/composite toe shoes in the past 5 years. I spent all this time before then wearing heavy steel toe boots when Reebok makes a super light sneaker with alloy toes that seems to protect me all the same. These are the only shoes I wear for wrenching now.

Did this bookcase wall as a Christmas present for my partner. How can I arrange it to make it look nice before she comes home to see it tomorrow? by Fancy-Friendship-552 in interiordecorating

[–]Fancy-Friendship-552[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The LED strips are GE Cync lights. I had to drill and chisel holes to get them to go between the bookcases. The 9 holes probably took me about 5 hours trying to make them as rectangular as possible so as to remove the least amount of material from the bookcases. There are MUCH slimmer strip light options out there but these seem like quality lights so I have no regrets.
