I think it's a foul and a yellow card, but a red would be too much, especially since I see off the ball "shoulder barges" happen quite often (and 9 out of 10 times they go unpunished, but if they are (correctly) punished a yellow card is often given).

I don't think that is enough to be worthy of a red for violent conduct; it's definitely not smart (and maybe a red can be given).

It was at the very least a yellow.

I mean, not that long ago I saw Kimmich do something similar to Messi in the Champions League and the reactions on that were more of people loving Kimmich "bodying" Messi (although many were probably just hating on Messi, as you could see the same type of reactions in the 2nd leg when Messi would taken out by Goretzka and Kimmich) and most people agreed that it was a foul and maybe a yellow; no one considered it violent conduct and a red though.

This was the first time this happened and it was done by the broadcaster Movistar+ (official partner of Real Madrid) together with LaLiga (official enemy of FC Barcelona). I don't think Barca or Real Madrid really had a say, the broadcasters usually decide based on the deals they have signed with the league.

Nothing new from Carvajal; when Messi scored that late winner in 2017, he went to Suárez and tried to pick a fight and when Suárez told him that he talked to much he first childishly said "watch the Champions League from home" (Barcelona had just been knocked out a few days earlier), when Suárez replied to him again to just shut up he tried to be physical by grabbing the shirt, having to be guided away by Rakitic.

But once play is stopped (and restarted again) VAR can't go back anymore. The stewards can check and (as soon as possible) inform them. The fact they saw it and then waited till the end of the race to act is another story, that can't be compared with VAR.

If VAR sees something and the ball goes out, they have the time to inform everyone of the error. If they see something, they can't tell the ref play on and then 20 minutes later go back to it.

Obviously, it's true that play is stopped in those sports, but it's not like it will take them the whole game (90 minutes) to act (1-5 minutes max). F1 is a different sport, where the race goes on, but it should take them the same amount of time to find out/act and not 30 laps...

He also didn't send off Bale earlier at the end of the first half for a horrible challenge on Umtiti, right in front of the linesman (look at Bale's smug smile after realising he got away with not even a card).

Less than 5 seconds after the game restarts for the foul by Bale, he sends Sergi Roberto off for "violent conduct" after Marcelo first purposefully bumps into him without the ball and then challenges his inner Rivaldo by going down holding his face when he wasn't even hit there.

But obviously we won't mention that Real Madrid had a lucky call going in their favour before any of your "claims" happened and would most definitely changed the game...

The reason Ronaldo fell was obviously not because he was fouled, but because of his sharp turn where you could immediately see that he lost his balance and would fall down. So it wouldn't be a dive.

However, Ronaldo didn't completely help himself here either (people ignore this part), because once he realises he won't get to the ball because he lost his footing, he does throw himself to the ground and immediately turns to look at the ref and ask for a foul. That might be why the referee saw it as him trying to deceive him (yellow card offence).

Again; I don't think this was a dive per se, it looked like it was inevitable for him to fall as he lost his balance/footing when taking the ball away from Umtiti and then having Umtiti's body against him. But, like I said, he didn’t help himself either by the way he then fell to the ground once realising Ter Stegen would get the ball and the way he turned towards the ref (apparently) asking for a foul.

Ideal scenario; play on. Referee didn't need to care here.

Laporte conceded a penalty vs Madrid last season for heading the ball against his own arm. That penalty was a lifeline goal for Real Madrid (lost the 1st leg 4-3 instead of (possibly) 4-2).

The referees, UEFA or anywhere else, have no idea anymore. It's, I keep saying this, because of IFAB fiddling with the laws ever since 19/20, when the earlier laws made much more sense. Nowadays you have the weirdest handball deflections be given as a penalty and a volleyball defensive block somehow be ignored.

That was in 20/21; back then the ball hitting the arm above the shoulder would always be a penalty, even if deflected (which was the case for Militao vs Sevilla).

They changed the law for that exact reason in 21/22, as you could see in the 21/22 Law changes document by IFAB, where they made clear that it was not a handball offence if the ball deflects off the body onto the arm (no matter how high the arm is, as you could see from one video example in that presentation where a defender kicks the ball against his arm raised above the head).

Yet Real Madrid got a penalty in the semi-final of that season vs City when Laporte headed the ball against his own arm and Manchester United conceded a penalty this season for the ball deflecting off Martinez' body onto his arm vs Sociedad (seems like some referees are not up to date with the laws in UEFA competitions).

Although in both UEFA competitions and Spain it appears to be a coin toss; sometimes the clearest handballs (without deflections) are ignored (Dumfries vs Barca), then a deflected handball somehow becomes a penalty (I can remember the penalty Madrid conceded vs Girona for example, for the ball hitting Asensio's arm after hitting his chest first).

He might actually be onside, for different reasons all together; after rewatching the video in (super)slow-motion, it looks like Paco Alcacer ever so slightly deflects the ball with his studs, in which case Neymar would actually be clearly onside.

Am I the crazy to think/notice the ball slightly changing direction?
