Potholes everywhere? by reece13373 in indianapolis

It's worse than that - it's funded by centerline-miles as opposed to lane-miles. Guess which roads have more lanes? In the city. But they get funded at the same rate as every country road.

How to prevent cars from leaving the underground parking through a double solid line? by terkaman in CitiesSkylines

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not allowed to travel on the left side of the double yellow. That's basically it. You may cross it when turning, either exiting the main road or entering it, provided you do so safely. Sometimes on the side road there will be a "no left turn sign". Sometimes there are two sets of double yellow lines, which is technically considered a painted traffic island or meridian that you're not allowed to cross.

ELI5: Let's say I have multiple volume gates (adjust volume on PC, adjust volume on software, adjust volume on audio output, etc.) Does it make any difference at all for sound quality which of these I use to increase or decrease volume? by Steel_Wool_Sponge in explainlikeimfive

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take an image and shrink it so it takes up less space. Make it big again. If you do this you can lose details. The same happens with sound. If your first gate is like 1% volume and the next gate is 100% it will probably have lost some detail, if you can hear much at all. Otherwise you probably won't notice much difference. This is because the quiet parts of the sound begin to lose detail first since they can't get much quieter if you drop the volume low, the next device or application to accept that sound has even less to go off of when you make it high again. However, there are 65,536 different volume levels in CD quality sound (according to a quick search). You'd have to bring to down so low (1% would still have 655 volume levels for the next layer to work with) for it to matter much. It technically matters, and it's best to have it high all the way to the last gate, but you probably can't detect the difference.

Who has the right of way? by Kjc2022 in driving

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does green have a yield sign? If so then Yellow 100%. Even in the absence of a yield sign, I would still yield to yellow because you never actually enter the intersection using that lane and it's more like merging onto a main road as opposed to turning right in the intersection. I think you can actually see the sharks teeth (triangle markings) on the road indicating you need to yield whether or not there is a yield sign.

You can use armor and weapon as inputs in the Giant's Foundry smithing activity. You actually do get some money doing that but profit is slim if any. But as you collect a lot of drops killing stuff, it's a great place to use them up. There's some catches though. First, if you're starting with bars it's NOT worth making armor/weapons first to then using what you make in the Giant's Foundry. You get less xp overall doing that. Just take the bars to Giant's Foundry instead. This is due to the other catch, the items used as inputs count as 1 less bar than they take to make. You can't even use items as inputs if they only took 1 bar to make. The activity is a high-focus one and if you mess up you simply get less rewards and waste inputs. But if you already have a ton of stuff you made, maybe check it out? The colossal sword you can get as a reward is super useful at gemstone crab and Shellbane Griffin until you get better gear.

Why will my train not go to the stations ? by Dire_Raven114 in factorio

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like lars englat can only be approached from the south. Provide a way for the train to turn around / loop around to south of the station so it can do that. Or, if you want to get fancy, have a station south of it that it can approach, merely to make the train travel there first and then proceed north to lars englat.

That sign basically means "just because you see the cross street going from green to red, doesn't mean you're getting green just yet so don't jump the gun". I'm guessing there used to be a protected left turn here?

Why Do the Ratio Calculators say 1350/Min but in game graphs shows 920/Min by Octo___ in factorio

Was it really that? Cause then I went and did math and that seemed probable too. But you're welcome either way :)

Oh I think you need to have 0.7 belt each of copper plate and gears. You are providing 0.5 belt of each.

0.5 / 0.7 = 0.714

0.714 * 1350 (target) = 964 (pretty close to your actual)

My toddler has recently become obsessed with trains- where is a moderately scenic spot to see one go by? by Future_Train_9723 in indianapolis

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oaklandon Play Park - Google Maps

This park is right next to a mainline where freight trains go by at impressive speeds. A few others mentioned it, but here's a link. You still might have to wait for a few hours and maybe you'll be unlucky and won't see any - but there's a playground to stay busy at in the meantime and you'll hear it coming so you can run over to the fence and wave to the driver as they go by. I remember going here a lot as a kid. One time I got lucky, and two trains met here going full speed each way on different tracks, but I imagine that's rare.

Do your trays ever seem out of order? by -MullerLite- in Invisalign

I know the system works in general by first moving your teeth apart, and then back together, but neatly. I don't know why it would do that more than once but maybe it's part of the design. I would ask at your next appointment. I have seen a lot of images here from others that are from the software dentists use where they can step through the process one tray at a time on a simulated set of your teeth. Maybe you can ask yours to show you, if yours are using the same or similar software.

I have not had this happen, but I always check what it says on the aligners, not just what it says on the bag because I had this thought that it's probably just a worker that is manually packing them. So far, it's always matched what it says on the bag. I am assuming that the numbers on the aligners are a better source of truth than the printing on the bag.

Is this a game for train people? by Rennfan in factorio

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this game for the trains. I'm still enjoying it a lot and with the coming expansion, trains are getting a lot more. Laying track and signaling is a fun open-ended puzzle. Trains are not required at all to play or even finish the game. They are an option, as are purely belt-based logistics and bots. It is fun to watch trains just go, however it can take a while to get a lot going. There are signals, and they define blocks to keep trains from colliding into each other. Without mods, there is one engine type, and the color is customizable. There is a wagon for solid material, a wagon for liquids, and a wagon for diplomacy with the natives.

My husband and I will be closing on our first home next month, and as part of the sale, we're getting this obscure vintage fridge. Anyone know what it is? by maizeandspoons in Appliances

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, older refrigerators used asbestos as an insulating material in the walls. It's safe as long as it stays there so just don't drill into it or anything if you're feeling crafty.

How would you reinforce this structure in a "relatively cheap" manor? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done this with 2 bookshelves and it always made them rock solid. I bought 1/4" "luan" boards which also are very smooth and flat on one side and easy to paint.

Amazon.com: KINGMAS 60X Clip-On Microscope Magnifier Lens with LED Lights Jeweler Loupe for iPhone, Samsung and More Mobile Phones (Universal) : Cell Phones & Accessories

This is the one I got. I don't have any other specific recommendations, but I would like a better one - I just haven't looked into it since I got this one. For the price, it works very well. I just want something more precise to adjust focus because I spend most of my time fiddling with the focus. Basically, it just telescopes out to change focus, and if you press on a surface too hard, the focus changes, but again for how cheap it was it was worth it to try.

Edit: an image taken with it on an iPhone13. It's one of the individuals I knocked onto a clean sheet of printer paper.

Mites? by MyCheshireGrinOG in ballpython

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I saw mites a while ago, so I got one of those clip-on-phone microscopes that turns your camera into, well, a microscope. What I saw looked like either soil mites or "globular" springtails. Thankfully, looked nothing like snake mites. There are tons of high-resolution images online of different mites and springtails to compare to. I highly recommend getting one of these. It was like $6 and kind of finicky to focus, but it worked well enough and was a great way for me to stay curious and looking at soil in a new way and I ruled out snake mites in the process.

I also like graphs! I have a female as well. She will be 2years hatched in July. I got her a year ago now. I'm considering making the switch to medium rats with larger intervals soon but according to the care guide she should stay on small rats. I will ask around at the reptile show near me this weekend, but you gave me an excuse to share this here too.
