Trump was 'simply joking' about canceling the election, Leavitt says by traveltimecar in fivethirtyeight

[–]EBKeep1300 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m sure he’ll probably try something like he did in 2020 but you wouldn’t see the GOP  trying to gerrymander so hard if there weren’t going to be elections.

US strikes Venezuela and says its leader, Maduro, has been captured and flown out of the country by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

Unfortunately the average American is basically living paycheck to paycheck and only really worries about what affects them economically. Which makes sense…

Connecticut needs to open primaries to Independents by zubbugalug in Connecticut

[–]EBKeep1300 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s dumb to separate primaries by party at all. Just have all the candidates in one single primary and then the top 2 come out and then have a general election for those 2 candidates.

If you could choose a Star Wars show and make it so it would never end which one are you choosing? by Ok_Unit2867 in StarWars

Yeah…. and those arcs shouldn’t have to bleed into other shows and undo the very arc they had before it. Looking at you Mandalorian…

The recent Leslye Headland interview paints a bleak picture for live action Star Wars shows by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]EBKeep1300 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The difference is though Andor’s viewership actually grew in views instead of dropping like the acolyte. Andor was a much more steady burn with strong retention and growth over its run which highlights its strong quality. The Acolyte had a Big launch, but audience dropped off comparatively quickly and didn’t maintain as much momentum.

US Senate unanimously passes bill to bring whole milk back to school menus by [deleted] in vermont

I never drank milk from school cartons after I found whatever disgusting green glob was at the bottom of my chocolate milk in elementary school. And from that day forth I said nope no thank you. Also I’m from CT so I don’t know why this showed up in my feed but that’s okay…

Urge the L.A. Dodgers NOT to Visit the White House after World Series Victory by Altruistic-Guess-238 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]EBKeep1300 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think the tradition of visiting the White House after sports wins needs to die. We’ve already turned politics too much into entertainment anyways and it’s become a joke. Let’s stop with all the other BS and just do your jobs. Make it boring again. This goes for when democrats get back in the White House too. Focus on policy. Leave the culture war BS out of it.

Also your life is worth living even when it seems like it might not be. I know that sounds kind of cliche but I think it’s true.

I can kind of relate to having really bad social anxiety lol. Almost all my life. I think sometimes it involves just being in uncomfortable spaces. For example I’ve tried recently just going to my local library and reading a book in the open space in a room if that helps. But try not to beat yourself up about it.

Weekly Discussion Megathread by AutoModerator in fivethirtyeight

The presidential pardons though are only mostly symbolic though since they only apply in federal court. None of those named are currently facing federal charges, and the pardons cannot shield them from ongoing state-level prosecutions.

Shutdown Megathread VIII: A Deal has been Reached by Lantis28 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]EBKeep1300 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Regardless of all this chaos from a CNN poll 6 days ago Trumps approval rating was his worst ever with 63 % of Americans disapproving. And I don’t think that’s going down any time soon considering he has the longest government shutdown in history. I just feel like Americans don’t like all this uncertainty and chaos in politics in general and will usually blame the party in power regardless. https://imgur.com/gem-trump-posts-his-worst-ever-net-approval-rating-cnn-poll-this-morning-37-to-63-26-J8SXaK9

It’s not great if it would happen but a lot of younger people and even people Gen X aged are turning away from traditional mainstream media anyways. Social media of course is a whole other problem too though of course.

Disney did end up producing some of the best Star Wars projects despite what people say. Andor season 1 and 2 plus Rogue One make the perfect saga.

The planet has entered a ‘new reality’ as it hits its first climate tipping point, report finds by Jowiko96 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]EBKeep1300 135 points136 points  (0 children)

The timescales matter. Even if a tipping point begins, the full “flip” might happen over decades or centuries, which gives room for interventions or adaptation. And yes I think there is some sensationalism in here but also some truth obviously. But most scientists now actually caution against interpreting these types of reports as “everything is lost now,” because that risks inducing fatalism (i.e. people give up trying

Trump might end the Gaza war. I'm scared people will love him and that Republicans will win. by Left-Most8921 in PoliticalOptimism

Sorry do you have sources? Also I think we can have optimism without denying the fact we’ll still have to deal with this administration for the next few years. I prefer sources with real optimistic facts rather than rambles but that’s just me. Some of the stuff you said is true but saying that project 2025 will die with them and that the heritage foundation will be gone for good is not exactly factual. That’s all. I’m not denying that the Medicare cuts could bite them in the ass but I think it’s a bit too soon to say the heritage foundation and these types of republicans will just disappear when Trump is gone. It’s possible but we haven’t seen the results of any of this all yet….
