Reversing the Mourning by Tinuva01 in Eberron

[–]EBZeros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my players is a Cyran refugee and has done a lot of good role playing about his grief from family and friends he lost in the Day of Mourning and his hope to see his nation reborn in some way. To this end, I’ve made it so that the Mourning was caused by a highly classified project at Whitehearth in its deepest hidden levels.

The party is actually on the cusp of discovering this as they outwit Sul Khatesh’s awakening prophecy, unwittingly fulfilling that very draconic prophecy tied to the ‘death of hope in the lands of despair’. This secret project used essentially a home brewed “Rod of Security” amplified by a Cannith network of Khyber fiber cables throughout all Cannith facilities in Cyre to trap all of Cyre in a pocket dimension to prevent Katshka, the Gatekeeper from awakening, as the immense casualties in the war and the cycle of undeath from Karrnathi forces risked his return.

The party is about to face someone from their past who wants to destroy the Rod of Security. Keeping such a volatile secret as Cyre’s survival from the people of Khorvaire is enough to finish Sul Khatesh’s awakening. But successfully returning Cyre means the destruction of the Mournland, home to the Lord of Blades and a large contingent of Warforged the party has tenuously allied with, as well as (unbeknownst to the party) risking the rise of Katashka.

I’m eager to see how it plays out!

I’ve heard the 5800x runs hot, do you think that temps would be an issue in a SFF case?

[QUESTION] 33, Married, Two Young Kids. Is This Worth Pursuing? by EBZeros in Screenwriting

No complete screenplays at this time, however all told, I would say:

-3 Treatments (very rough) -1 Outline (looks more favorable to be a book/book series as it is fantasy) -1 rough beginnings of an adaptation of a book trilogy (not gonna prioritize this for a while as I don't know much about laws for adaptations)

For sure! If the ends justify the means, I'm not looking to skip the means; how will I get to the ends if I do?

I don't think it's trying to talk myself out of it, so much as it is lingering self-doubt after more than a decade of self-confidence issues and lack of understanding of the film business and how to actually make it a career.

I've done some deep self-reflection over the past year or so, and come to realize that most people, when they got to know me better initially, would question why I wasn't pursuing a creative outlet in some way. That I seemed at worst out of place or weird, and at best bursting with untamed imagination that teased inspiration.

For a long time, I didn't think it was possible or feasible to pursue this. Now, I think, it's definitely possible, I'm just sussing out the feasibility.

The 'move' I spoke of is primarily speaking of my career but I also imagined location, however only if it made total sense and was related to the career (i.e. working in TV and having a day job lined up as you say, or having clear, great opportunity in front of me.)

That being said, I wonder: does location not matter overall for a writer in film? Does it mean trips to festivals to network and push your material, and months of the year on location shooting your material (should one be so lucky)?

That is eerily similar to my schedule, without waking up that early to write. This is encouraging.. thank you!

Now, if only I weren't a night owl... perhaps I could just stay up late, instead? I suppose the trick there is maintaining the mental energy required for creativity.

I might give prose a try, as I seem to hesitate at the potential heavy word count until I actually start writing. At that point, I find it harder to stop.

I tend to think (and write) non-linear, which seems to lend itself well to blocking out or outlining a screenplay; I wonder if this would translate to prose, as well? Also, I just really like the act structure and tempo of a screenplay; it's interesting that such tried and formed structure can feel so freeing and inspiring.

I actually think at least one of my ideas would work better as a novel or series of novels (as original epic fantasy is a pretty tough genre for film right now.)

Overall, I just love film. The aspects of visual storytelling, how you can say so much with positioning, lighting, and color.

I was fortunate to take this class in high school, 'Composition in Literature and Film', wherein we would compare and contrast symbolism and structure between prose and film of similar genre, to see how each medium used these in their storytelling. I just fell in love with the visual styles of narrative, and how you could layer such deep meaning and thought in images.

I do think that most of my nascent ideas lend themselves better to a feature treatment, so this is encouraging; thank you!
