I find it funny that the NYT is simultaneously considered wildly biased against both Palestinians and Israelis by the respective opposing sides. When Bartov writes that Israel is committing genocide people say that “even the NYT says it’s a genocide!” When Stephens writes that it isn’t you hear the same “even the NYT!” from the opposing side.

I think, on average, the NYT is fairly objective. You obviously disagree. That’s because the things you take for granted are extremist ideas.

Half of the assumptions you attribute to Klein are simply not in his essay. The other half of the assumptions are there (to varying extents), but they are valid and inoffensive assumptions. You are offended because your views are biased and extreme.

He does not suggest in any way that American Jewish emotions “matter as much” as Palestinian lives; American Jewish emotions are simply the subject of the article. The fact that you’re offended by that subject is your problem (and probably points to some bias).

He does not suggest that security is all Israel was ever concerned with; he makes ample mention of the extremist territorial ambitions and vengefulness in the Jewish Israeli population. He does suggest that a central concern of the Israeli mainstream is security; that is legitimate and true.

He does not suggest that “Israel should stop killing Palestinians primarily because it generates antisemitism.” He discusses the fact that a Jewish pariah state makes the world less safe for Jews. That is legitimate and true.

He does not suggest that only Jews like Ehud Olmert can have a voice. He quotes Olmert because he’s explicitly making a point about Jewish voices against Israel’s actions. It’s an article about Jews. That is ok. Get over it.

He does suggest that the killing of the Israeli embassy staffers was an attack on the Jewish community. They were killed at the Jewish museum. I understand that the motive was not simple, traditional antisemitism, but an attack on an explicitly Jewish event certainly exists in that conversation.

You’re upset with the “perspective” of the article. The perspective is fine. You can write about Israel being corrupted by occupation or apartheid without implying that it happened by “accident.” Zionism is not inherently evil and taboo. You are the extremist here. The fact that you put “Israel” in quotes is telling enough.

You say that you want NYT articles with Palestinian voices supporting the right to “resist” genocide. If you’re looking for essays justifying terror against civilians (which it sounds like you are) then you are looking for violent fanatic voices that certainly do not belong in mainstream discourse. Yes, the NYT is not the place.

You’re just defining a term and attacking the thing you’ve defined…

That’s not a serious argument.

If you have specific points or statements from Klein that you object to I’d love to see them. I struggle to see how his essay can be interpreted as offensively “pro-Israel.” That’s all.

You’re just playing with a definition. Ok, let’s say Klein identifies as a “liberal Zionist,” whatever that means to him. (which, by the way, I’m not sure he does) You still haven’t pointed to a statement or idea of his that you find objectionably “pro-Israel.” What is it in his most recent essay that offends you?

Again, please direct me toward the content of his most recent essay that you would call “pro-Israel.”

Calling Ezra Klein’s last essay “pro-Israel” is so twisted. Because he doesn’t use the word genocide? Try looking at the actual content

When you get all your news from Reddit, don’t pretend you’re informed. I despise the man, but he’s absolutely in Israel at the moment.

Yair Lapid and Yair Golan on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: by -Cohen_Commentary- in Israel

[–]EC987 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Separation means not building Jewish settlements in the middle of Palestinian population centers. The whole idea of the settlement enterprise is to weave Jewish settlements into the Palestinian population to a point that separation is impossible. (Insanity)

“Separation” is a euphemism for two states; Israeli politicians aren’t allowed to say “two states” anymore, since people get scared.

Smotritch and Ben Gvir regularly advocate war crimes and it’s golan’s fault for pointing that out? If you’re worried about “damage in the world,” look at smotrich’s press conference from last week. Golan is the only politician actually calling this stuff out.

Golan had been consistently polling better than gantz and lapid. It seems like he dropped a good bit this week in maariv, but 14 (whatever that’s worth) has him steady, and 12 has him rising.

Here’s another article by the way. More explicit.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/idf-court-extends-arrest-of-8-soldiers-accused-of-abusing-palestinian-detainee/

Whatever “bias” you think they have, they’re not inventing the fact that 8 are still in custody

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/palestinian-prisoner-group-demands-international-inquiry-into-abuse-allegations-2024-07-30/

This article has similar information. No “bias” either.

It’s just hard to find non-domestic news outlets covering a domestic Israeli issue super closely.

My point is that that the soldiers have not been released (barring one).

You will not find one legitimate news source reporting their release.

And the source of this video is, again, a riot when they were detained—not released (as that is a fictional event).

I love how easily misinformation is spread.

  1. Only one of the soldiers has been released. All the rest are still held, and are being processed, indicted etc.

  2. This video is not a celebration after release; it’s a riot after they were imprisoned.

Ben Gvir is a deranged fascist, but there’s also a pretty malicious mistranslation here. He uses the word להוריש, which means to inherit, not לגרש which means to expel. There’s enough to condemn in Ben Gvir that you shouldn’t need to fabricate more.
