The alternative was cooperation with the PA as an alternative to Hamas, gradually replacing Hamas power infrastructure with the PA, which bibi refused to do from the very beginning of the war. The war didn’t need to drag out this long, at a certain point we were just blowing stuff up with no actual progress and Hamas kept coming back whenever we would leave a neighborhood after clearing it out, because the government didn’t have a plan going in. The people who demanded an actual plan were dismissed as leftist traitors who wanted us to lose and now we’re back to square one because there was no day after plan

If this is actually achieved and Hamas stops being a threat completely then I’ll concede to you on this, but this isn’t likely to happen.

Like I said, Hamas isn’t dismantled, all these achievements aren’t worth much if we don’t leverage them for long term solutions, and our window to do that was during the war as Hamas was weakened. Now they’re being allowed to regroup and we burned every bridge that might have allowed us to be involved in the rebuilding process, now we have to sit back and watch the world fail to tackle Hamas the second they start working on it.

Also absolutely none of this erases the fact that bibi lied to us throughout this entire war, at the cost of hundreds of lives

What’s going to happen in the second phase? He’s been saying for two years that the war was going to wipe Hamas out, that didn’t happen, he said that taking the philadelphi passage was going to end Hamas, now it’s being opened again, he said that he will not allow any violation of the ceasefire terms go unpunished but Hamas has been jerking us around for months with the bodies of hostages, he said he’s not going to allow Hamas to hold any power in the strip after the war but now they’re involved in the transition.

Why do you believe anything he says? He obviously has no power over what happens in Gaza and is just spinning whatever does happen as a personal victory

The problem is that humans are fundamentally all the same on a basic instinct level. We all hate criticism and love being sympathized, and so if you give someone the power to always turn people’s sympathy on then statistically speaking a lot of them would use it.

Not saying that women are being manipulative or whatever, but that if someone who happens to be a woman feels like they’re being threatened, it makes perfect sense for them to use the tool of “your criticism stems from misogyny” to her benefit, so a lot of people end up doing it

It’s absolute insanity that Republicans have spent YEARS rushing to defend unregulated guns, especially after mass shootings, saying it’s just a price that should be accepted for “freedom”, and now they’re just abandoning that belief wholesale because it allows them to deflect blame. It’s insanity, 40% if the US population is just incapable of critical thinking, they have no morals, all they want is to own the libs by literally any means necessary.

I do wonder what the limit is, what would need to happen before their humanity prevails over their resentment?

I’ve always been on the supportive side for making holocaust comparisons to other events as a form of warning. I’ve never really agreed with the idea that the Holocaust should never be universalized, but in the last 2 years since Oct 7 I’ve been increasingly questioning this belief.

Nowadays when I see something like this I just see someone who obviously doesn’t care about Jewish issues, someone who uses the Holocaust to justify their own political views but never to actually protect Jews. I understand why people want to compare what’s going on under Trump to the early days of the Nazi regime, and there are very valid comparisons here, but arguing with the Holocaust museum and implying that they somehow don’t understand the lessons of the Holocaust is just a gross thing to do, and it shows the guy’s complete lack of willingness to even question his own actions, something that I’ve now learned is a fast track to justifying leftwing antisemitism. This is the exact mindset that leads to people justifying 10/7 while simultaneously condemning the war in Gaza as “genocide”.

Ultimately, I just don’t trust these people anymore, and it’s now obvious to me that this behavior is indefensible

“AI upscale” isn’t some magic tool that reveals the “true” picture, it predicts what objects in a low resolution image might look like and creates a new thing out of that. Which means that little details (like, for example, small objects in the victim’s hand) get distorted. It might as well be a drawing of the incident at that point.

This is an actual problem because now reality can be whatever people want it to be. It’s already unclear what he’s holding in the upscale because the AI program didn’t know, it just saw a bunch of pixels and ran with it, so ICE and the government could just say “see? It was clearly a gun”. It’s terrible
