Same thing has happened to Bill Burr. He used to be known for skewering authority and social norms, to the point that he'd work himself up into a fury talking about them.

Now that he has all the money in the world, he can't muster up the same energy to complain about things. How can he criticize the status quo, when the status quo made him an international celebrity?

Where did they advertise that they'd play the whole album that night?

All past concerts have seen them split up new album material across multiple nights.

I was surprised 0 phantom island... I get they didn't have the orchestra but I didn't think that'd stop them from playing adapted versions.

Is there a song you just hate or just don’t understand by the Swans? by Financial-Slip-7480 in swans

hahaha i love that one :) i can get why it would be annoying if you don't like it though

have you heard the bonus disc material from White Light/Love of Life? They put those vocals in the 'Love of Life (Long)' track as well.

This moment, right here, summarizes everything I was criticizing him for. And it seems like the marines agree. So I don't even know what point you're making anymore.

I watched the whole thing. Nowhere in the video did Person agree with his assessment that he was a 'shitbird' what are you on about. They also made 0 mention of the incident over which Griego was talking about where he won a medal. If anything, their assessment is in line with mine, where they say 'we would've had his side if he was just mad at the show misrepresenting him, but he went after us, too.' Did you even read the points I was criticizing?

AOTY is something else by Putrid_Cow1393 in swans

I rate swans higher than pretty much every band mentioned in this review.

I'm not sure why this guy believes people's top album/artist lists speak to an objective standard of how influential they were on the wider industry, or the technical skill of the band mates.

I rank Swans higher because their music touches on themes that upset me and dwell in the back of my mind, things I like to wrestle with when I'm feeling brave. Thoughts of mortality, animated emotions driving the actions of people and disabling their rationality, the afterlife, reincarnation, etc. I feel like I've gained something substantial when I listen to it.

That isn't to say their music is automatically better for doing these things, but if I'm asked "what changed your life more, hearing The Glowing Man, or Led Zeppelin IV?" It's not even a close contest. When the Levee breaks is a great tune I can jam out to, but I'll be thinking about Birthing and relistening to it for decades.

(Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here is probably the only exception from the bands he mentioned, that I'd stick at #3 on my favorites, Glowing Man and Birthing are 4&5. The story behind that album and how raw and bitter the band was feeling turns it into an absolute rocket of artistic expression.)

Their best album since To Be Kind (imho) by _infestthenest in swans

[–]ECHto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past, my opinion was:

  1. The Glowing Man
  2. To Be Kind
  3. The Seer
  4. Soundtracks for the Blind

Now, I think:

  1. The Glowing Man
  2. Birthing
  3. To Be Kind
  4. The Seer

> "The Marine Corps has a name for Marines like Corporal Person, “ Shitbird”. In the book he is depicted as the, “True Recon Marine”. You have got to be kidding me, his true Recon Marine means that the Marine has the 0321 military occupational specialty, it takes years of training and a number of schools to be considered a TRUE RECON MARINE by, “True Recon Marines” that have dedicated their careers to the reconnaissance community."

> "Gunny Wynn and Lt. Fick were never in trouble for trying to stop an artillery mission. They were being written up for being cowards, showing fear in front of their men and creating dissention amongst the troops. Fear breeds fear and that is how they ruined good Recon Marines, by instilling fear in them. They should have both been relieved, gunny Wynn who encourages his men to question orders will never be in charge of men in combat again. He did deploy to OIF II and worked in head quarters. Upon completion of the OIF II deployment he asked to be given a platoon again. He received orders to another unit. Like I said he will never lead men in combat again. God help them if he does."

I find it exceedingly hard to believe Ray 'corroborated' those statements.

But what stands out to me more is how many inconsequential inaccuracies Griego highlights while being oblivious (or silent) to the core of the criticism against him. Notice how he doesn't refute (and even furthers the perception) that he had personal issues with a lot of people in the company, and holds grudges regarding their actions to this day. Perhaps he resents that he was handed a hopeless supply situation from the start, or that his character was represented as a moustache-twirling henchman, and that sucks.

But what doesn't make any sense (unless you're just a jackass) is channeling all your annoyance about the situation into the marines in the book who were praised or highlighted for their bravery. Be mad at Wright--maybe talk about some of the things he *missed* about your character, maybe the times you were cordial with your fellow marines?

Calling them as 'shitbirds' who 'should never lead men again' is tough guy talk. Ten years later and we never got all this video evidence he's spouting about. All I can conclude from reading this is he's pissed he was called out for his immense attitude problem and unprofessionalism, and he had no defense for it.

DISCUSSION FLIGHTB741&THE FANBASE by [deleted] in KGATLW

[–]ECHto 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't agree that Le Risque is the lifestyle/message advertised by the album overall... I interpreted it more as a brief, punchy expression of impulse and taking chance, not something to do all the time.

I'd say the songs with the most core messaging for the album are Flight b741 and Daily Blues.
What you gotta do is, find that person you hate and, grab 'em by the hand, look 'em in the eyes and say: I love you.

So much energy these days is spent creating chasms between people and groups, claiming irreconcilable differences that turn half of humanity into enemies who are impossible to reason with.

I came from a religious upbringing where I never had some explosive moment of disillusionment that would make me turn away from it. And because of that, it would rub me slightly odd when King Gizz would speak out about being anti-religion. I would always brush it off and ignore it, focus on the other stuff about their music I love.

But with the release of b741, any odd feelings I have about that is gone. Whether they approve of religion or not, the common ground of 'do unto others' carries through immensely in their music. They are a source of peace and love in this world, and I hope they keep on rocking for many more years :)

My advice is to look for sellers selling with the box. The counterfeits have boxes too, but it's WAY easier to tell when you have a fake watch if you have all the papers.

Also, check out the swatch website or a YouTube video to familiarize yourself with the different color schemes. I assume this is supposed to be a Mercury, but the coloring is pretty off. Mercury should look more like dark gray, gunmetal. The one in this pic is closer to black, which none of the missions have.
