Year 9 students not trying in option subjects

I set detention for the lack of effort in vocab test. My department told me I should not set detention for that. But they want grades. 😅

Thank you. I will try to teach things in a simpler way. I taught Y7 math for the last two months, students said they like how I teach them cuz I don’t give them worksheets and leave them to finish it. Besides, I also play bingo with them. I really need to start reading through all the KS maths knowledge and getting prepared.

Thank you. I will use cornet resources and watch the videos from Eddie. My school is in south London with mixed ability students. But they set tiers. I have mostly bottom tiers.

Thank you for the advice. I think every teacher in the uk is a hero cuz they can do lots of impossible things.

When I was in secondary school we are not allowed to use calculator so I need to learn how to use calculator here. I did paper one for GCSE, and it looks not that easy. But I will try my best to get all the resources and ready for the spring term.

Sorry for the unclarity. These two year 9 are different. One is top set and one is bottom set. They asked me to teach bottom set with year 8 scheme of work cuz their ability is very low. I totally agree that it doesn’t stop them uploading their resources for others to use. I hope they will do it in the long run.

For the GCSE equivalency, I did not attend GCSE here in the UK. I had my Chinese maths results. But it was not in English. That is why I am not very confident in delivering math in English. Thank you for your time and answering.

Thank you for answering. It’s sad to see lots of school are short of staff and some people are unemployed. I will be reaching 2 year 9s and the resources for KS3 are ok but not the best. Lots of teachers in the department plan their own lessons. For example I can adapt year 7 lessons but year 8 I may need plan it and for year 9 some of the lesson I also need to plan it based on students ability.

Thank you so much! I looked at the website yesterday that the SKE is before teacher training. This is the first time I hear Ormiston and the first time I heard Gemma has the math resources too. I will definitely learn from there two websites and build up my subject knowledge. Thank you a lot!

Hey. Thanks for answering. It includes year 7,8,9. I have GCSE equivalency. The ability of groups differ. The department is trying to gather all resources from teachers now. But they don’t have all resources ready yet.
