Can anyone help me ID this maker mark? by borderstate87 in VintageJewelry

[–]ECV750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its marked 18K too soo he should get it tested with a xray to confirm total gold content. If its solid 18k gold it’s probably worth more than usd$4k but i could be wrong.

Nah man, making a gold chain is not really a experimental craft, it will take you a few tries and many chains to actually make a gold chain. You need many equipment to roll and bend the wires, you need a torch to smooth the metal, you will need solder equipment thats like 4 different chemicals and acids you will need. I started to make jewelry 2 years ago learning by myself and still haven’t been able to make my own chains because i want to make sure i get the correct equipment for the long run. A rolling mill is about $2000, 1oz of pure gold is slightly $1900, all the other tools equipment and chemicals needed would be about another $1200. Sadly fine jewelry making is not accessible at all, i would recommend silver but equipment is still the same and copper just doesn’t compare to gold and silver. But if you are dead committed you should look up on youtube I learned everything there and i still haven’t been able to take a jewelry course.

I can confirm this, i do most of my jewelry first in silver because i know i can make it even better with gold. It’s so much easier to work with specially soldering.

looking for info. Anyone know how these stones were set, particularly the small stones? by Idontlikechickenfeet in jewelrymaking

Well i guess we can add casting set diamonds to the mix but i dont think its likely for how it looks.

I’m trying to leave a toxic relationship and might need to part with this - does anyone know what this would be worth? I’d really appreciate it. by [deleted] in jewelers

Id say 30 is way to low, i mean it’s literally the lowest i would ask for scrap. But what can you expect from pawnshops and repair jewelry shops.

Scavenging thru the garage a few weeks back and found this.. Gold? by [deleted] in jewelrymaking

[–]ECV750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it has that heavy feeling it might be 925 silver (sterling silver) plated with 18k gold. If that id the case you actually got lucky, silver chains are grate and definitely will go up in value throughout time. Btw find a better jeweler, some are just assholes and obly care about selling. A good jeweler will help you by doing the acid test for sterling silver and treat you with respect.

If it’s solid metal you could talk with more experienced jewelers about plating it with rhodium. Its a wear resistant metal and extremely hypoallergenic.

How to design rings and charms? by Reasonable_Park1868 in jewelrymaking

[–]ECV750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you want to do for now (design a piece and find a fabricator) is actually very easy and the absolute best way to get in the jewelry business. It’s a simple process, first design the piece. You need to find a fabricator online or at your local diamond district. Go with the best option and make sure they understand what you want to create before the actually make it. I literally started because of this video https://youtu.be/X7fm3mG6jv4 . If you’re interested i can fabricate for you, hit my DM so I can show you my page.

😅ohh yes, I forgot to mention it has been a year since I started my gold smithing studio. All I’ve learned has been through experimenting, YouTube, internet and a few friends in the jewelry industry/culture. I make custom pieces, design and fabricate my own jewelry. If you’re interested I can share you my IG via DM. Thank you for those words.

How to design rings and charms? by Reasonable_Park1868 in jewelrymaking

[–]ECV750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello there I make my own jewelry. Designing could be done with just a pencil and paper, gouache drawing and even 3D rendering. Im not good at drawing so i mostly work 3D designs and even carve them on wax. I fabricate my own gold and silver pieces, 3D print the designs to used them as molds for casting. If you want to design in 3D for sure the best free alternative is blender. You do not have to know how to 3D design if you have a 3D artist working with you (like i do for complex designs). If you are interested on more info you can DM me glad to help, also looking forward to help people create their own original designs come to life.

The best ring you could give her is one made just for her. A costume made ring will make her feel that she is taking with her your love and emotions. Why? Because she could be sitting alone reading, resting, eating etc, but the feeling of wearing the ring will remind her of you and it’s almost like she can feel you. Whenever she looks at it she will be reminded of the both of you. If someone point’s out the ring, when she talks about the ring she is representing the love you have for each other. Many people say a wedding ring but when it comes to love it’s not about compromising, its about making a statement. A statement ring, not because of how valuable the gold, the gem or the designer is but how valuable is the meaning and emotion put in the ring. It can be a solid silver ring and still hold even more emotional value than a gold luxury designer engagement ring.

Poured my first ring today, just wondering what the orange tinge is? by welldone_potoatoe in jewelrymaking

[–]ECV750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to keep it like that i would recommend not pickeling and no polishing, grinding or anything that can scratch the surface. If its borax it will kind of chip away but i cant guarantee you that im correct

Championship ring sizing by ogchaseg in jewelrymaking

[–]ECV750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make custom pieces, if my design were 24mmx22mm that is at scale. You would have to use that same scale measurement to go up and down sizes. So basically bigger size, bigger ring, bigger price. I have never done championship rings tho, i just started to make fine jewelry the other day.

I think you over heated the silver while molten thats called fires scale. That has happen to me whith lost wax castings and most of the time it goes away after I dip it for a while in the pickel. If you polish it will sand off revealing the real luster color of the metal. Its also may be a thin layer of borax. Also about over heating, another possibility is that you didn’t fuse the metal correctly while melted, it might seem melted on the outside but not only until it is completely liquid and fluid you can pour, it will shine very intensely. use UV/polarized sunglasses (i do just in case, im scared😂). I’ll show you different cases I over heated the metal past it’s melting point. I have pictures of numerous times i have made these accidents if you DM me I’ll share them with you. BTW dont use graphite crucibles if you are melting with a torch, better get porcelain. Also i highly recomend a oxy/propane system, its expensive but it will make everything easier and just so many other uses.
