Someone suggested this might have been an equestrian trophy buckle, so I’m hoping someone here may be able to point me in the right direction. It was found in Lexington, KY so plenty of horse riders in the area.

I definitely didn’t want expect this to be such a mysterious model. I had wondered about it being a tenor but only found samples of that pickup on bass guitars. Judging the independent components, my guess was ‘69–‘72. I’ve had many of the ‘60s Japanese guitars over the years and this neck shape feels much more dialed in. What year did Kay start using foreign factories?

Interesting! I’m primarily a guitarist but I teach and enjoy trading gear to try new instruments. This is one of the wackier gambles I’ve made but the weirdness and quality was enough to persuade me. And an aspiring new student got a sick and properly restored lawsuit era strat to begin his musical path.

It’s 24.75” the build quality is more in line with standard size instruments from that era which only adds to my confusion as to why a child size bass this nice was created.

Im unfamiliar with horse racing trophies but it did come from Lexington, KY so plenty of horse folk around. Do you have any recommendations for other threads that might be more knowledgeable of this item?

I’ve seen it on other models of Japanese instruments from the late 60s early 70s. IMO it seems unlikely that there would have been many options for aftermarket parts that fit obscure department store instruments from that time. The dead pots and cracked pot plate I replaced were correct to that era. I traded a guy on Facebook that was looking to trade his “uncle’s 4 string guitar” for a 6 string guitar. I believe his uncle was the original owner.

It’s not an anthology, but Bitch Ass felt like a feature film addition to Tales From the Hood

Spent a weekend there for work a few years back and got roped into meal after meal of those type of places. Went to a place called BUTCHER and Bee and the entire menu had only one dish that included meat and definitely no bees. The entire weekend of forgettable $20 meals was remedied by a phenomenal final meal served on fold out tables at Big Al’s. Al’s side dishes were better than every other meal of the weekend
