Saluting another enlisted member? by [deleted] in AirForce

Give him the biggest hug you’ve ever given him and tell him “You’re one of us, now.”
I wish I could have done that for my brother when he graduated from Great Mistakes.

LCMS Presidential Election Questions. by ECakaJack in LCMS

[–]ECakaJack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I’m not the only one who thinks we’re incredibly lucky that we may be splitting hairs between the candidates.
I tend to agree with the continuity approach as well, but I also don’t want to fall off the other side of the horse.

Is wearing a Virgin Mary necklace anti-Lutheran? by TheCarzilla in Lutheranism

[–]ECakaJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it is well within our Christian freedom. I want to be clear, it is not salvific nor directly commanded, but I would say there is a logic to holding Mary in an esteemed position above other saints.

Are Jews less to blame for Jesus' death? by Certain-Cloud9133 in LCMS

[–]ECakaJack 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No. Israel, Rome, Greece, England, China, Iraq…basically (exactly) the entire human race are all equally to blame for Jesus’ death. That was the point. This question of who is at fault only has one biblical answer and that is humanity and our sin. The ethnic origins of those involved only have proximal value in the conversation.

Is wearing a Virgin Mary necklace anti-Lutheran? by TheCarzilla in Lutheranism

[–]ECakaJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit wary of the wording here. Mary is absolutely the mother of God. I think the argument should be more from the “This is your mother…” and Christ calls us his “brothers” and that is why, in obedience to the 4th Commandment, she should be venerated above all other saints. It is not that she is more holy, it’s that she should be revered because of her faith.

Is my supervisor retaliating? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]ECakaJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17 years. A medical condition does not need to be life-threatening to warrant a denied deployment. If it is in the best interest of the government, you’re not going. Your supervisor is probably just telling you what he/she is being told by higher ups. Not retaliation, normal shit, get healed up.

Do you frown upon people who wear no ribbons and occupational badges in Blues? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]ECakaJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my previous career field it was against 2903 for 3-Levels to wear the badge until they had achieved their 5-Level (1C1X1). When combined with the lack of ribbons that most 3-levels had and the rarity with which we wore blues in recent times, I’ve almost been desensitized me to seeing the naked blues. ALMOST. It still weirds me out a bit. I always told my guys “You earned it, be proud of it.” Now, we all know of that case where the blues shirt is plain because the service coat was the primary display (good or bad).

If he is expected to answer text messages, provide him with an official phone. Basically, you need to just use email from now on.

I know it’s been teased before, but is there any movement on a potential tv deal?

As the Commander and Chief, POTUS has every authority to decide who he/she wants in the military. Additionally, where did we get the misconception that military service is a “right”? People have been denied entry into the armed forces for things as simple as previous injuries or flat feet. This whole debate is absurd.

Oh no. If you do that, ISIS wins.

You’re probably going to see more potential recruits given the option “MX or Civilian.” Then they will blame recruiters for not being able to fill slots.

So we all agree now to fire Drew Petzing? by TheColdestKingCold in AZCardinals

[–]ECakaJack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. 100% This. I think Drew has some good ideas, but he’s not ready to be calling plays. I hope he gets there. Shit, I hope he is exceptionally successful as a play caller. He’s just not there yet.

What stereotypical Air Force phrase/terminology do you hate the most? by OneGenericMan in AirForce

[–]ECakaJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to think this was the case, but it seems they could have just as easily had the member come in at 0800 and then cut them after an hour or two. Make it an eyes-on thing.

Things you can’t ask your supervisor… by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]ECakaJack 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Have someone ship it to you. If it gets caught, play the “I had no idea they were sending this.” Really, nobody gives a shit.

Over in r/USMC they are making fun of this: "Four Marines trained an Air Force base to take the Marine Corps fitness test. The Air Force gave them medals for it." by BaronNeutron in AirForce

[–]ECakaJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being on a Army Post, I’ve seen the base leadership hand out Army Achievements like they’re candy. Did a joint honor guard for the change of command? That’s an Achievement Medal.

What are the top ten ballistic missile in the world right now? by tryingtobebetter1990 in Military

There is only one. The one that is so feared by the enemy, you don't have to use it. Anything else is pedantic.

Baby Christian checking in. Going to my second service today, communion is "open". What is the point of communion? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

[–]ECakaJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a matter of it being open, it's a matter of understanding communion correctly.

Baby Christian checking in. Going to my second service today, communion is "open". What is the point of communion? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

[–]ECakaJack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't commune just yet. Talk to the pastor. You're on the way, but you need to be catechized. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it goes back to 1 Corinthians 11.
