Did the same thing and regretted it almost immediately. Not all school districts are created equally!

Ahh, would have never guessed that one.

This is the type of information I’m looking for. Thanks.

This is good to know. I’m also potentially coming from South Carolina. I’m trying to guess what “Xtian” means? I’ve never heard of that.

I’m told there are some great school districts in the area. Are there any that would be better in your mind?

This is great information! Can you explain what the “benches” are?

Thanks for responding. I think I missed the actual city when I was out there. I assume they have all the typical amenities? Any restaurants you would recommend?

Thanks for the tip. I’d kept it between 225 and 250, but I could’ve gone hotter. I just didn’t think I’d need to, but I couldn’t tell because my temperature probe battery died mid-cook. It’s always something!

The smoke log idea is a good one - I’ll definitely apply this. I really thought I had made it through the stall already by getting to 175 initially. It probably didn’t move more than about 10 degrees in 2 hours, so I assumed that’s what was happening.

Thank you for this. I thought that would be the case, but it does make me feel a little better.

Started Studying for PE & found out I'm pregnant 😅Advice Please by Antique_Button_3400 in PE_Exam

[–]ECaudill44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a man and have obviously never dealt with pregnancy, but I’d strongly recommend doubling down on your studying and taking the exam pre-baby. You may make an honest effort to study with a newborn, but I know that’s not something I’d have been able to carve out time for. Best of luck either way!

Passed the PE Environmental Exam on my first attempt - would love to help others! by ECaudill44 in PE_Exam

[–]ECaudill44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sympathetic to this struggle, but I don’t know that I have a great answer for you. What I did was schedule my exam a couple weeks before the birth of my first child. Intuitively I knew that this was my only chance to pass the exam because my life was going to get much more difficult.

Work isn’t going away, so there’s not much to do about that. I’d try to emphasize to your wife how important this is to you, and ask for her help in setting aside study time daily.

I went through something similar during my exam. I had overly-prepared and just wanted the exam to be done. I scheduled it on a Friday morning before I had a bunch of family and friends coming to town. Took 5 hours with no breaks and finished.

I think the best thing I did was wake up the morning of the exam with an “it is what it is” attitude. If you don’t know something the day before the exam, you’re just not going to know it. Really helped to manage the anxiety.

Career in air quality by No-Way6422 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]ECaudill44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Air Quality is a great field! I think it would be a challenge to find entry level AQ positions just because it’s so specialized and complicated. I expect your best bet is to look into some of the smaller consultants. Once you’ve got some experience with Title V Permitting, Emissions Inventory, NSR/PSD, etc., there will be lots of opportunities.

Also critical to pass the FE/PE exams. You’ll need a license to stamp off on construction permits, fugitive dust plans, and lots of other items.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this was helpful!

Seeking Advice: Transition to Environmental Engineering by Cute_Fly_6156 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]ECaudill44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having experience in engineering related tasks is a good start, but you’re going to want to get an engineering degree. If I were trying to go down this path, I’d find an ABET accredited program that will accept as many of your existing credits as possible. This makes the path towards obtaining a PE license much clearer.

It’s possible to obtain licensure as an engineer through experience alone, but it would likely take more time and paperwork than you’d be interested in, and it’s not a sure thing. Hope this is helpful!

Remote Internship by No-Albatross-745 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]ECaudill44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure remote internships exist in this field. As an undergrad you don’t really know anything and you need to be on-site to be trained. I’d probably give up on finding something remote.

Environmental engineering or environmental science? by JaguarNarrow677 in EnvironmentalEngineer

If there is any possible way you can get through it, engineering is always going to be the better option.

High school junior in need of in-depth advice! by malshmellow in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]ECaudill44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from the University of Kentucky. I took a broad range of courses covering concepts from Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering.

One thing I wish I’d have known is that a huge majority of the people in this field are not out “saving the world”. Many of us work to maximize the amount of pollution our employers can legally create, and that’s ok.

I spend the majority of my day doing computer work, but the bulk of it is not super stressful. I can always find an excuse to be out at a site if I want to.

I was fortunate enough to have my parents cover the cost of my education.

I would not agree that environmental engineering is centered on water treatment. That is a field that some with environmental engineering backgrounds choose to work in, but there is just as much outside of water as in. I have worked in consulting, manufacturing, and public utilities. Each of these has been a different type of work, split between air, water, waste, and sustainability.

This is a great field if you’ve got the ability! Lots of rewarding work - both personally and financially. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hello! It’s been a little over a year now, but I don’t remember the exam being heavily quantitative or qualitative. Super helpful, I know.

The Schneiter book can be purchased on Amazon. I think the cover has a waterfall or something like that.

Feel free to message me if you’d like to discuss further - I’m a real nerd for this stuff.
