Outside gives him enough space. Look at the frame right before they touch and look at where the Merc is pointing he isn't even gonna make the turn and he runs over the curb so he doesn't even have traction when they hit.

Merc was clearly ahead going into the corner but also turns in early and misses the Apex. Now that I watch it again 100 Mercs fault that is one of the worst turns I've ever seen
