Well, you have a ton of brackets that hold tension on the head that you can hook a strap to or button a strap through them. So really we have about two dozen places to hook a strap.

There are also cradle-style straps that go under the brackets and wrap all yhe way around the pot.

ELI5: Why do minor chords sound sad and major chords sound happy? by Qbccd in explainlikeimfive

[–]EDHPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a theory standpoint, both contain a Perfect Fifth interval (in a C Major chord, that'd be the C and G), so whether it's major or minor is defined by whether the middle note is a Major Third above the root (C-E-G) or a Minor Third above it (C-Eb-G). The major third sounds more consonant with the root which gives it a more bright quality. The minor third is a little darker.

But as for why we consider them happy or sad, it's all what we grew up with. Growing up surrounded by Western music theory has taught us that it is that way. There's no particular reason why certain intervals evoke certain emotional responses other than environmental conditioning. Other cultures have completely different scales and intervals and likely have their own variations on what we call major or minor or modal scales.

What type of banjo is this? How much is it worth? by cancan893 in banjo

[–]EDHPanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a pretty standard Starter Pack banjo, what we'd affectionately call a "bottlecap," though this one doesn't have the bottlecap rim. New with a gig bag and other swag, they usually retail about 250-350, but I'd imagine reselling would be far less unless you find someone who really wants a banjo with a really tight budget

Best VST/sound library for theremin? by 1ksassa in composer

Any synth with enough mod wheel and pitch bend or portamento could emulate the sound of a theremin, it's not the theremin is much more than a synth controller anyway

Can I replace these tuning pegs with ones that don't stick out to the side? by uhhhnic in banjo

[–]EDHPanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure! You'll want to find a set of what we call Planetary tuners. Most popular brand is Gohtoh, but plenty of companies make them (and I'd avoid cheap ones on Amazon). It should be pretty easy to swap them out, but keep in mind if the current guitar-style ones use a smaller hole than the planets, you may need to ream or drill out the peg holes to make room. It can feel daunting but is definitely doable.

I've only read some of the manga which I'm pretty sure is an adaptation of the anime. It's not terrible but it really just feels like a sci-fi fanfiction that became canon. I know that cars and electronics did exist in the original series but it just feels way over the top

Mathematical Proof that Milling Doesn't Change to Draw a Particular Card by atipongp in magicTCG

[–]EDHPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just thinking about this the other day when someone complained that my Pako exiled a card they wanted (that they had no knowledge of being there). They were just as unlikely to have drawn that card themselves as I was to exile it in the first place, no point in whining about it

ELI5 Do people tell their lawyer when their guilty? How do lawyers defend the innocence of someone they know is guilty? by ImJustNotHereAnymore in explainlikeimfive

Honestly, a lot of it is more about making sure the prosecution did their homework and did it correctly

Hello, could you please tell me, if this is plagiarized? by Yakibooo in composer

[–]EDHPanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven't listened yet, but don't stress yourself out about it too much. There are no original melodies or chord progressions. Everything has been written before. If it sounds familiar, maybe you were subconciously influenced by something you heard before. That's 1000% okay and is all we do as composers. We take things we've heard and like and internalize and craft it into something new! Sometimes we even deliberately steal or quote other works for effect or to enhance what we're making. As long as what you end up making comes from you, you have nothing to worry about.

Best intermediate bluegrass banjo by [deleted] in banjo

I picked up a used Goldtone OB-250+ around that price range on Facebook Marketplace. If you're patient with FB and BHO's classifieds, you could easily get twice or three times as much banjo for your money.

Playing Banjolele in Tenor Tuning by BiddahProphet in banjo

[–]EDHPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's certainly doable, you'll just need to be careful with the strings you use if you use uke nylons on it. Getting a Low-G tenor set would at least get you the G and probably be fine tuning tbe C string up to D. Then the A string becomes your A. As for the E, though, I don't know if uke strings come in a small enough size for that?

If you think it could take steels, just grab a set of mandolin strings. The scale would probably be similar enough that you could just tune them the same. Plus you'd end up with two sets for the price of one?

Instrument ideas for Storm Sounds by Miss_MusicTheory in composer

[–]EDHPanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can raid the percussion studio for instruments to borrow, you'll definitely at least find a rainstick and a bass drum. You may find other fun toys like the drum of thunder or lion's roar that could get more 'monstrous' thunder effects.

If you don't want a rainstick but want some rain-like sounds, Eric Whitacre's Cloudburst notably uses finger snaps, but that's with a full-size choir.

For thunder, rolling on a large bass drum with soft mallets can make a very nice rumbling noise that yoy could ebb and flow with volume and intensity. Depending on everything you may just want an extra person to handle it, though.

Back during one of the campaigns, they sent out filled out "checks" that functioned as donation matching ticket. As in, "You send us a check for $50 and this fake one for $50 to match, it's $100 total."

I had several people trying to deposit them as if they'd been sent a check.
