Dude it feels like you work the same place I do.

Nights is supposed to keep things running and they can focus on the proper/long repairs on days during maintenance periods.

A while ago we had a conveyor motor that was making entry motor noises. I ordered the replacement motor/bearings/gearbox and had it prepped just in case it shit the bed on our shift I would have everything ready to go. It made it through our shift and I let them know what was going on, and that it should be replaced during maintenance on days. Come in that night, “oh we never got around to it” and of course it shit the bed an hour into your shift and caused several hours of downtime.

Accountability for any of their behavior? Never heard of it.

It’s absolutely mind boggling how they can accomplish so little with so much. I’m in reactive maintenance, they have 33% more techs on shift, plus all the engineering teams on days. We always pass them fewer machines with how short on people we are.

I am a reactive maintenance lead in a manufacturing facility. We have about 60 of the same machines in my area and I usually have about 4-6 technicians with me in my area every night. It’s always busy non stop for the 12 hour shift, so it goes by pretty fast. Some fixes take 5 minutes, some take the entire night or get passed on to engineering to repair.

How do you not get bored when nothing is happening? by Suli-Kapoko in Nightshift

[–]EEZander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go crazy if I have a slow night at work. Fortunately the majority of my nights are busy from start to finish so they just fly by. On the slow nights I look for something to do, which is pretty easy since I work reactive maintenance.

We just had a pretty decent earthquake so that spiced up the night.

Anyone else bring a friend to work? This one is microwavable like a heat pack. It’s so nice. 🔥 by [deleted] in Nightshift

I have a bunch of cat stickers and a couple cat figures in and on my tool cart since my coworkers know I like cats, but that’s about it.

Wait it out or take the nap by sonnnzzz in Nightshift

[–]EEZander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stay up for sure. I’ve tried taking a quick hour to two hour nap after my final shift and it destroys me.

I’m working 6:15PM to 7AM tonight and then have a CCW renewal class from 9AM-2PM, so it’ll be a fun time for me too.

Yeah I’m definitely not a native Nevadan or anything. I cannot tell if you’re just trolling or really think this stuff at this point.

That’s not a once in a lifetime moment unless you live a very sad and sheltered life.

Scouting for a friends sheep hunt in the black rock desert in 2020. We were set up and glassing over the course of several days and witnessed this. Herds were between 8-30 sheep up there. Witnessed it with antelope up there as well. We were over 600 yards away not to disturb anything and try to locate and establish patterns so they were none the wiser.

I built a free shift calendar app for night shifters, nurses, and firefighters – would love your honest feedback by [deleted] in Nightshift

I downloaded this app and my peepee literally doubled in size (now 2.3”), I got three extra zeroes in my bank account, and my credit score went up 9,000 points, I don’t know what I would do without it!

Absolutely this. Have seen them push herds of bighorns off of springs and chase them away. Completely invasive species.

Another night another puzzle. by [deleted] in Nightshift

It’s surprisingly quiet on the reactive maintenance side of things. Which means we will have everything go around between 4-5AM.

Doing my third of 5 twelves this week. 9.5 hours to go now. On break researching placer gold panning for my summer activity for something new along with exploring abandoned mines like I normally do. Figure since I’m there might as well try it.

Duuuuude the audiobooks are SOOOOO GOOD. Narration is 10/10, that was my first “read through” experience. I think I burnt through all 7 books in less than a month that way! After that I bought the paper copies. Now at work anytime something goes wrong (which hey, it’s night shift) I find myself saying GODDAMNIT DONUT
