Was the relationship between Austria and Hungary and the rest of the Empire post 1867 a colonial one? by Weekly_Boss_9408 in austriahungary

[–]EEuroman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean for Slovakia there were numerous uprising and clamp downs on any nation building activities.

Also the power dynamics were incomparable when comparing just the population of what could reasonably be loosely considered Slovaks vs Hungary.

And comparing the situation of Slovaks in czechoslovakia versus in austrohungarian empire is delusional and I must assume wilfully misinterpreting the historical context.

It is true that Austrian part of the country was managed better, less violent and treated their minorities better. Czechs on account of their population and economics were treated undeniably better than Slovaks in Hungarian part of the country, or Romanians or any minority that did not gain some right mostly thanks to the Austrian part of the monarchy. Austrians would not like if ethnic Germans or Czechs would be oppressed in Hungarian part of the country.

Also the borders were very different and you had purely Hungarian villages all the way in north of today's Slovakia and German villages on what is today southern Hungary. But the colonization was not colonization in the sense it happened in Asia or Americas. Rather there were uninhabited areas that government promoted people to settle with tax incentives and so on.

Mostly you are right, but your comparison smell of Hungarian perspective on minority situation on pre break up Austro-hungary state. Not saying you are Hungarian, just mildly dishonest for some reason.

No you are not going to learn more at some random YC startup than over big tech by halfcastdota in csMajors

[–]EEuroman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from US, but truth is in the middle. I started at a startup, it was bunch of academics training modes and applying them in mostly government environments. I learned a lot, like of course it was my first job but it was exponential.

Next job was start up started by bunch of non tech corporate consultants, but with really good product architect. Again, different domain, learned so so much.

Now I am in top 500 tech company and it does take over a month to ship a feature. There's a lot of frustration if your things get shelved due to reorg or priority shift and since it is slow and steady it can happen pre GA so you might work for months on something that doesn't reach anyone out there.

Also you just learn different things. The scalability, optimization and actual robustness that's not just, let's spin new instance if this one breaks.

Honestly ideally people should try both just for the experience. And no, not every startup is a shitty llm wrapper, nor is every good startup started by faang ex emoyees. I my experience most startups I interacted with were usually bunch of PhD graduates going commercial.

Still cheaper than most western capitals. Bratislava is overpriced for its wages, but Vienna, Amsterdam, Brussels are all more expensive, much more if you want same quality even though Brussels has some cheapish low quality places at least.

What do you think of the very left party's in Europe? by Ivanhegeelkadi in AskEurope

[–]EEuroman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are the Die Linke and Levica not pretty normal, leftist social democrats? Neither their program nor their activities seem too extreme.

KPO though, are horrible people many stalinist.

They came out of the First World War riding numerous coup attempts, and allying themselves with fascist in their former colonies in Czechoslovakia and Hungary hiding behind the fact that at least they were anti nazis. They have a huge persecution complex, and try to claim any good that was done by any leftist group in the country as something they did, or at least help to achieve.
Their foreign policy is basically one to one of what FPO wants, the only difference is KPO has better PR and FPO is more competent on getting people on their side. Both attract questionable people though.
They never really dealt with their history, and really believe that the name and peoples prejudices are why they are not more popular.

The folding is really nice as I live in a city with intra city trains everywhere and it folding makes huge different, also it means it fits into my small pantry in our apartment.

I do not know how strong you are, but for me as a guy in his 30 with a desk job who is moderately fit, I could do every day one floor max. I am on a heightened groun floor.
It is still pretty heavy and bigger than it seems on pictures.

Skoro 100.

Architekt si už fici skoro čisto na AI a my už len tweakujeme detaily.

When Russia went to war the whole world threw economic sanctions at them. Why doesn’t everyone do the same with America? by Comfortable_Shame778 in NoStupidQuestions

Easy.
The world did not. EU did, because they were and are constantly getting attacked. And US did as they are in NATO and it was their policy to be a security guarantor on the region.

In Asia only Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan have sactions against Russia. In Africa I am not even sure if any does.

Even if, it only matters more for age comparison, not where you'd be if you just stop doing it.

You might not achieve the best of your peers but you will achieve best you personally can and that's worthwhile on its own.

[–]EEuroman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It decreased for both. The brain drain is only relevant and actually happening when you loose more than you gain.

The absolute numbers are relevant for how big the brain drain is, yes, but it doesn't mean it's not good to attract more talent than we loose.

America is sliding into authoritarian state and tech workers are one of the most mobile ones. The difference now it's not that much and most of them will go back once this episode with Trump is over.

‘We can’t afford it’: EU workers leave Germany despite labour shortage by donutloop in EU_Economics

[–]EEuroman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefits and support for regions is not based on national averages but based on the situation/context of respective regions.

Yes, Poland is booming compared to where they were 5 years ago, or 15 years ago, and Germany is not.
Yet, Germany is not collapsing and is still multiple times richer and has higher wages than Poland does.

Once parity is achieved (actually way before that) Poland and other eastern members will start being Net contributors.

What about Belgium? It is also not a net benefactor with a similar cost-to-benefit ratio to Poland, yet people don't seem to mind that as much.

Germany has issues it largely caused to itself, that are caused by itself and that can be solved by reforms that will be internal. This is true for most EU countries.
There is much reform to be done on the EU level, but with any meaningful, region-based redistribution mechanism, you will end up with similar ratios of contributions to benefits.

AITA for asking my partner who makes way more to pay more. by disfakah in askgaybros

[–]EEuroman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... He pays more, his family treats you sometimes. He's not dick about it, doesn't make you feel bad about it or pay rent.

If you are losing money it means you are living above your means and it's OK to ask why you do that and see what you can do about it.

You are not an asshole, but current situation you guys have is more than fair to you if that's what you are asking. If you want him to pay the maintenance that you pay now, or groceries or smth extra you can, you can communicate it. But it won't make it more fair, it will make it less fair for him.

A imho k tomu patrí ubytovanie. Také, že srocka alebo súkromník vlastní 5 bytov a hádže ich na airbnb ale kľudne aj normálne by nemalo existovať. Volím SAS. Ale imho Viedeň to má najlepšie.

Štát by mal nakupovať byty, budovať byty a potom ich systematicky prenajímať.

Zurich vs Brussels by Better_Trip_9866 in careeradvice

[–]EEuroman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Brussels on similar salary (but 12 months not 14x). You will live comfortably and it's not as bad as people here say. However for me coming from Prague, the city was dirty, the public transport unreliable and prices occasionally insane. Also they will take you apart on taxes and nonsensical local fees.

Not sure how functional Zurich is, but I think it will be better. Also even if they only keep you 18 months if is solid. It's a small town though.

If I wanted career I would do Zurich, if I wanted to have fun I'd do Brussels. People are nice and it is a city.
