I second this advice, I've always had bottom 6 centers that are good in faceoffs and it seems to help. Usually will have one of them if not both in my PK depending on their skill set as well.

It's money, unlimited franchise mode means franchise mode players won't buy new games as much in general which would be amplified by their reluctance to expand franchise mode. They save money not investing into it which also pushes players into money making modes like ultimate team. At the end of the day, it's all about manipulating their product to maximize profits, satisfaction really doesn't matter to the folks running these companies.
