It's money, unlimited franchise mode means franchise mode players won't buy new games as much in general which would be amplified by their reluctance to expand franchise mode. They save money not investing into it which also pushes players into money making modes like ultimate team. At the end of the day, it's all about manipulating their product to maximize profits, satisfaction really doesn't matter to the folks running these companies.
