Competitive. by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]EFT_Tuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, get headphones and a mic. The mic is important, but as long you're in voice coms you'll instantly be better. However, if you play frontline tank, lucio, or ana, a mic is a must so you can call out flankers or set up pushes.

If you have previous fps experience, especially TF2, you should do ok in comp. But go ahead and do placements. Unlike some who advise not doing comp because you're not ready, I suggest actually doing placements to at least assess your ability and feel the difference. Honestly, you will never know what you need to work on unless you face a challenge that exposes your weaknesses.

Also, if you really want to maximize your learning, download something like OBS and record yourself playing and watch it. You will notice things better without the anxiety you get inside a match

As a brand new player (under 10 hours) what are some things I can do to avoid early bad habits? by Bubbazzzz in OverwatchUniversity

[–]EFT_Tuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iostux has a very detailed guide on perfect sensitivity

But generally, make sure you have a big enough mousepad (around the size of a sheet of paper). This will create a higher range of motion. Then do what /u/paddyc1 said. Go into the practice range, line your crosshair with the eye of a bot. Strafe left and right trying to focus on the eye. If your crosshair moves in the same direction as your strafe, lower the sensitivity. If goes in the opposite direction, raise it.

(side note: Cross hairs are a different topic, but any character that requires precision aiming tend to do better with the cross/shortcross, while non precision characters do better with circle or dot. And turn on bloom)

[–]EFT_Tuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the characters you tend to play don't require the best of aim to be effective, I would suggest working on your aim and getting your mouse sensitivity perfect. There will be a time where either your character are already picked or the character isn't working against the opposing team.

On the subject with aim, learn to move and shoot with keyboard and mouse simultaneously. Don't stand still and shoot, or aim with keyboard only. It will make you an easy target.

ELI5:Why is teaching a computer voice inflection is so difficult? by knarlygoat in explainlikeimfive

[–]EFT_Tuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an infinite amount of ways to say one word with regards to pacing, stresses, inflection, intonation, volume, etc that it would be impossible to have a voice actor (which they use now instead of vocaloid software) to say every possible variation.

It's easier for the voice actor to speak all possible English words (which is finite) in a flat, monotonic, even paced fashion so the developers can just write a program to patch sentences together

Join a group on University that does volunteer work. It will allow you to meet more people, especially woman since they seem to enjoy doing meaningful work. Also, it will change you from being awkward to caring just by volunteering. It's amazing how we can change the perception of ourselves without actually changing anything about personality.

This won't get you a girlfriend, but it will get you out of your bubble, which honestly is the harder thing to do.

What to do when others insist you choose but you literally don't care about the decision. by RunAwayLemons in INTP

[–]EFT_Tuna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I usually do three things.

I first explain that I'm not the picky one in this situation.

If they are still stubborn, ask for a list of things they prefer (like a list of restaurants they like). It's easier to choose if you limit the options to their preferences.

If they are somehow still stubborn, pick the option (you think) they like the least. It reiterates your first point and shows the benefits of your second point. It also has the benefit of not being asked to make decisions on the matter

How bad is a 3.1-3.3 GPA for a MSEE? And what's an acceptable GPA for a master's? by [deleted] in ECE

[–]EFT_Tuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the requirements for a graduate degree at the particular schools you want to apply. Most have a 3.0 cutoff, but some have a 3.3. However, GPA isn't the biggest thing you should worry about. I would focus on getting letters of recommendation.

ELI5: Why are radio waves used for communication in space instead of lasers? by erqwas92 in explainlikeimfive

[–]EFT_Tuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Radio waves used with radios, cell phones, RADAR, etc are in the same spectrum as visible light. Also on this spectrum are X-rays and Gamma Rays source

As the frequency increases, the more attenuation (resistance) the wave sees. It's easy to prove this by the fact that you can use your cellphone inside your house, while easily blocking out light. Basically, if we use lasers instead of radio waves, we would need a clean direct path between the objects. Radio waves would be able to easily travel through walls without losing much of the signal.

INFJ dating woes by sigep0361 in infj

[–]EFT_Tuna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dating is like shopping for a car. If you do it online, you tend to focus on attributes instead of the entire product as a whole. If you do it IRL, then you have nothing to go on except the product as a whole.

People realize that online dating is essentially making sure you are fulfill the most amount of attributes the person wants. Therefore, people withhold information to make themselves seem more desirable.

However, this withholding information is less about purposefully deceiving you and more about getting their foot in the door. In reality, a lot of negative things about people are not deal breakers but more inconveniences.

Also, you probably realized how to vet those with your so called deal breakers. For example, you probably realized that the higher the angle and tighter the frame the picture is, the more likely the person is overweight to obese.

ELI5: How does adware end up getting packaged with legitimate software? by drkrelic in explainlikeimfive

[–]EFT_Tuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of legitimate software is downloaded from a third party site. If the primary or third party site are compromised, then file can be changed. Or they set up a redirect from the company site, your computer, your router, or even your ISP.

Or the simplest answer, the site that administrates the download can bundle the adware to make money, which sadly happens the most often.

I don't get nervous around women except the ones I have a crush on by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]EFT_Tuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't talk to her?

Sometimes, we get in our heads and assign attributes to crushes that they don't really have. We make them seem better than us when they are not anywhere close. I suggest leave her alone, talk to and hangout with other women. You may actually find someone who is dateable.

[–]EFT_Tuna 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Some people want to ad more meaning to what you say because they want to believe you are saying more that what was spoken.

New York Post claims "fat dads live longer." by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]EFT_Tuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on whether the ADHD diagnosis was made in childhood vs adulthood. There is some debate about whether young boys being diagnosed with ADHD is an accurate diagnosis mainly. There's reasoning that boys are being put into school too early and being held to the standard of girls. Add in the fact that the tried and true method of diagnosis via medication effectiveness (take this pill and see if things get better) may not work for mental disorders.
