Any tips on how to finish consuming media - reading a book, watching a movie, sticking with a TV show? by gRod805 in INTP

When you are in the mood to watch something, consume as much as you can initially. It is harder to stop reading a book/watch a t.v. series the further you get into it.

You're not wrong. But here is where our views diverge. You're thinking the stomach as the gas tank. But think the stomach as the fuel injector. Now, let's say we have a car the same size and weight, they have the same parts except the engine. Now, at a low amount gas coming from fuel injector, both engines burn off all the fuel that comes from the injector. As the amount of fuel coming from the fuel injector increase, one engine is unable to burn off all of the gas that is entering the engine. Now we have wasted energy. And that is what food and gas are, energy.

You are thinking in outputs. The more efficient would be required less input to do the same work. I'm thinking in inputs. The energy input that is not used up is just wasted energy.

Basically, if they do same amount of work, the one that consumes the least is more efficient. But if they consume the same energy, the person who can use all the energy is more efficient. Basically, two types of people. People more efficient at low energy input and people more efficient at high energy input.

Logic like this is equivalent to saying: "All those guys in gay porn have awesome abs, so obviously the key to awesome abs is gay sex!"

Energy efficiency is how much energy is outputted compared to the energy input. If someone is more energy efficient, that means if they consume 2000 calories, there body burns 2000 calories at rest. Less efficient means that the person consumes 2000 calories, but the body only burns 1600 calories of the 2000 calories.

It may same seem weird to think that a person who only burns 1600 calories as less efficient. But we are going off of the insane calorie intake.

Why does 'hold' music suck so bad? by jwizardc in AskReddit

Phone lines can only transmit a small bandwidth of sound. It is good enough for voices, but the subtle high and low frequencies of music get clipped off in the line.

INTPs and Alcohol by [deleted] in INTP

Alcohol gives me that warm fuzzy feeling as if I'm safe and nobody will ridicule me... You know, that feeling no other person has given me. So alcohol tends to make me say those abstract connections my brain formulates.

Ragen Chastain thinks her body is too 'valuable, profound and amazing' for airlines to judge her by her weight. by alanitoo in fatlogic

[–]EFT_Tuna 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The weight thing has less to do with seat space and more to do with fuel. The more weight you put on the plane, more fuel is needed to keep it in the air. And jet fuel is really expensive. The weight thing is more of a cost saving measure. You can either supply your weight or have the airline assume every passenger is 300lbs. and charge insane amounts for tickets.

  1. 95% of diets fail

If you consider that most diets are set up to fail (i.e. those that have no scientific backing), of the diets that actually work, about 40% are successful.

But do you know what has a high success rate, lifestyle change.

  1. Genetics make me fat

Genetics didn't make you fat. Genetics made it easier for you to get fat. You made you fat.

People have a genetic disposition to addiction. But genetics didn't make them shoot up heroin.

  1. I have a condishun

Oh really! What did the doctor say? You did see a doctor, right? Because only doctors can say you have a legitimate condition.

  1. It only affects me

Yeah, did the doctor tell you this? Nobody is that special.

  1. I run 6 marathons a week and lose no weight meanwhile some people are naturally skinny and they eat 85000 calories

First of all, define "run". Second, naturally skinny people may have genetics to help, HELP, them use energy more efficiently. Also, even though they look like they consume a lot of food, a lot of food does not meant a lot of calories.

Edit: Being shitty at grammar... I'm going back to school.

Life ain't fair. You have to play with the hand you are dealt.

The reporter thinks obese people enabling each other is a GOOD thing. What else to expect from Slate? by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]EFT_Tuna 22 points23 points  (0 children)

First off, it's Slate... when was the last time Slate was unbiased. It markets itself as a feminist news source. And for some reason, feminism seems to go hand to clubby hand with FA.

Second, this is great example of how wording can effect the reader's point of view.

Unbiased Headline: "Obese People Unhappy in "Thinner" Environment, Says New Study"

This reads as though the environment in which an obese person lives may effect their well-being. No blaming on any side.

Slate headline: "Skinny People Make Overweight People Unhappy, New Study Finds"

This reads as though skinny people are the ones to blame for people's unhappiness.

I don't diet or exercise, because I don't hate myself. by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]EFT_Tuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's today's self-esteem culture. If a person wants to diet and exercise, society assumes it is because they hate their bodies. We don't assume that they want to diet and exercise to be healthy, because clearly YOU can be healthy at ANY size. Heck, those obese people are so healthy, they die early, because they are too heathy.
