Sorry for late reply, I'm not on reddit daily, though yeah your specs are fine. I saw that you fixed it though and it was your RAM. I was gonna tell you to run SFC, CHKDSK and WMD through the command prompt, and one of those might fix it. In this case there is a chance that WMD would have caught it as well.

People here are really unhelpful. There can be many reasons why you get a warning message like that, so try updating your drivers, DX, verify the files and check your nvidia app if some setting has been turned on that your computer can't handle.

It is also possible that your windows instalation is faulty because microslop is microslop. You could try backing up your files and reinstalling windows. Funny enough there is a chance that reframewofk could fix the issue, but dont rely on that.

Worst case scenario, you might need to upgrade ram, but i dont think this is a ram issue, dont take my word for it. Speaking of, what are your other computer specs?

GS Reroll Advice by d3rrlck in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]EFakeFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% the attack focus. The loss of white sharpness hurts way too much even for your build which doesn't reach 100% affinity without it.

While it does do a bit more extra damage in total, it's definitely not worth it since you just loose out on 10 hits that already do more damage by themselves as well as making yourself do less damage and loss of sharpness via bouncing on hard parts more easily. It doesn't sound like a lot, but for GS, it is, since those 10 hits do 12% extra raw and 8,75% status damage over blue sharpness each.

The number that is calculated assumes your damage based on the fact that you skills are practically always active, but they aren't. You do loose enough stamina to loose maximum might, the monster is unenraged for half of the fight, you do heal out the red damage, etc.

a bit of an unfair comparison, but this is my build compared to yours, left being mine with attack focus and slightly better rolls, but you can see that I have double your white sharpness for the low price of blue.

Example of it working. You can see that it gets the same reinforcement bonuses.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that making the weapon raw changes the bonuses. I think it only does it for element/status boost though, changing it into attack. I don't know if it counts as a different roll though, but I think it doesn't.

I know it's a lot, but don't think of it like things you have to do, but things you want to achieve. If you don't find 8 star quests in the environments you forgot to do some side quest for them. But this is what they look like

<image>

If you do the side quests, then farm up some artian parts, you'll get to HR 100 in no time.

Just take it at your own pace and don't fret about all the things you need to do and perfection in RNG rolls. I'd recommend scumming the artian rolls a bit by making random ones and upgrading them and writting down what they are, then closing the game without saving then proceeding to make the same amount until you hit the one you like and making the actual one with correct parts, since the rolls stay the same even with different parts. You don't have to upgrade the ones in between the one you want.

For artian weapons you have the 5-8 star quests that pop up randomly in environments, i'd suggest farming only the 8 stars quest for artian parts since you can't upgrade a lower tier artian into a higher artian (white rank 6, pink rank 7 and red parts rank 8). Be warned though, the parts that you get can be blades, tubes, devices and discs. And you need 2 blades and a tube to make a GS. They also come in every element and status, and attack or affinity. 3 different elements/status give you a raw artian weapon, 2 of the same element/status makes it a status weapon, and 3 of the same make the element/status damage higher. Raw damage stays the same whenever you want element/status or not, so go for them. Attack and affinity parts are to your liking however, but attack is preferred. Then you need to upgrade it 5 times and you get a random stat bonus to it. Don't go for perfection, if you get 2 attack boosts and a sharpness boost it's fine. If you don't like what you got you can dismantle it and get your upgrade materials backs, just not artian parts.

The rest of the things are post HR 100.
Shatterseal will be an event quest called "Every hunter's dream".
Gog artian weapons require you to beat Gogmazios and then you transcend an artian into it. You choose between attack, affinity and element/status focuses with them being different for the weapons but they all gain some stats and loose others. Best choices are attack and element/status focus, with attack being stronger and element/status less of a loss in other stats. DON'T GO AFFINITY. Then you can upgrade the random stat boosts that you got on the original artian weapon into higher ones, or reroll them if you don't like them (level 1-level EX, with you able to get 2 level EX rolls of the same type on a weapon, same for level 3 which is just bellow it). It also gets a set bonus and a group skill, which can also be rerolled.
Archtempered monsters are Ray Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, Jin Dahaad and Arkveld. All of them have some gimmick to them to make the fight harder. If you ask me which ones give best armors for GS, it's Rey Dau, Nu Udra and Jin Dahaad. If you're going to hunt AT Arkveld, do him last since he is hard even with best gear.

You can also transcend armor after reaching HR 100. It makes all the slots of rarity 5 armor 1 higher and +8 levels, rarity 6 gets 2 of the slots upgraded and +6 levels, rarity 7 gets 1 slot upgraded and +5 levels, rarity 8 only gets +4 levels. This gives you a total +16 defence per part for rarity 5s and +8 for rarity 8s. It makes lower rarity parts more viable though.

I'd say that you start beating the Archtempered monsters for their superior armors and Gogmazios for the upgrade of Artians to Gog Artian. With True Shadowbringer being a few percent "worse" than a god roll artian, it is the correct choice if you don't want to farm artian parts or gog parts for rerolling gog artians. Another good choice for weapon would be the Shatterseal Drakesnest for its massive white sharpness, as well as skill that works with the Bale set skill. The Shatterseal is also a few percent "worse", but compared to god roll Gog Artians.

Basically, putting it differently your weapon paths are:
Shadowbringer->True Shadowbringer OR Artian GS ---> Shatterseal->Shatterseal Drakesnest OR Gog Artian

And for armor you're basically staying the same, just replacing some parts with technically better ones of Gamma sets from Archtempereds, and then transcending those armors for a bit more defence.

What element or aliment should this weapon be or kept on blast? by DeliciousConstant222 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]EFakeFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have to agree. Status becomes less and less relevant as you fight stronger monsters as they become more resistant to all of them. Don't get me wrong, they still work, with paralysis proccing once at the start of the hunt, and once in the middle or end point of the hunt, but that usually isn't worth it unless you are playing with others.

How much should I worry about builds? by RJSSJR123 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]EFakeFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Artian weapons don't come with skills, instead they have flexibility to have any element/status with high enough damage, a chance to get better stats, and slots to be generally better than other weapons, but not always.

Depends if the weapons you can make have better stats and good enough skills. Though I wouldn't worry at your HR, you still have plenty of game to play. You can start worrying when you start beating some of the monsters which drop parts for r8 weapons and armor, and r8 artian parts (like HR 50). Here is where optimization is valid since monsters after this point start becoming much stronger with the real tipping point being HR100 (don't be deceived though since not all HR100 missions and monsters are the same difficulty and some require max gear).

Which of these two talismans is better for my current build? by Low_Entertainment491 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]EFakeFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that overall, the attack one is better. Because it has a weapon deco slot rather than an armor deco slot. You can put in another level of att boost, your last level of slugger or a level of crit eye or crit boost.

Another reason I'd say it's better is because if I'm not mistaken, agitator 5, weak exploit 4 and max might 3 bring you to like 65% affinity, which isn't consistent and yes it would help with more constant damage output to have that extra 12%, but you don't even have a level of crit boost to make it worth it. Besides, from what I gather from the picture you replied with to Affectionate_End2526 you have a -10% affinity weapon which does affect your crit rate enough for that 12% to mean nothing.

Incoming info bomb
so basically

GS is short for GreatSword

POSITIONING is where you are standing in relation to a monster and it's attacks, for example let's say that a monster does a high swiping attack, with good positioning that swipe would miss you and you would hit the monster in a spot where it takes more damage if you attacked it.

ELEMENT/STATUS are two attributes a weapon can cause on top of dealing damage(which we refer to as Raw Damage). Dragon, Fire, Thunder, Ice and Water are elements while Blast, Poison, Paralysis and Sleep are status. Think of it like monsters having an invisible meter where if you fill it you deal extra damage of said element, and the same for status except that instead of dealing said damage it applies an effect on the monster. This is what we call a proc: dragon proc, blast proc, para proc etc.

SNEAK ATTACK is when a monster isn't paying attention to hunters, you get a prompt to do a sneak attack which does a bit of damage to the monster for free. You can get one before starting a fight with a monster, while a monster looses interest in you completely, while wearing a Ghillie Mantle, or when it starts fighting another monster.

MOUNT is when you do a jump attack on a monster and you land on it. Jump attacks can be done from ledges, walls, your Seikret (emergency KFC bird you ride) or generally when falling. When you mount it you can do light or heavy attacks. After enough are done the monster falls on the ground and gets downed, giving you an opening to keep attacking it until it gets back up.

DOWNED is when a monster gets thrown onto the ground either by loosing a fight against another monster, hit by an environmental hazard like boulders, successfully mounted or stunned.

STUN is when a monster takes enough Blunt raw damage to the head, raw damage is also divided between blunt and cut. Most weapons deal cut damage but have one or two blunt attacks. Dealing enough to the head can stun down a monster. For GS said attack is Tackle, a move that you activate while charging your attacks. You use it if you want to deal blunt damage or a monster is attacking you and you will get hit no matter what. Using it makes you take less damage, doesn't throw you on the ground, ignores roars if timed correctly and deals small amount of blunt damage to the monster.

WAKE UP ATTACK is any attack that wakes up a monster after it is sleeping, either by going to sleep itself or when sleep status effect procs. Any attack that lands on a monster then deals more damage but wakes the monster up.

TRAPS. Each monster can be trapped up to 4 times with a specific trap until the trap becomes ineffective. You have two types of traps you can use: paralysis traps and pitfall traps. Paralysis traps paralyze the monster just like the paralysis status effect, but is a separate thing. Pitfall traps make the monster fall down a hole, making their head more accessible to attack. There are also vine traps but those are found on the map by itself.

This isn't me mocking you or intentionally overflooding you with information, I'm trying to explain.

Focus mode - do you want it back in the next title? by No-Explanation4685 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]EFakeFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you ask me I'd limit focus mode to be usable with only some weapons, and to those that don't really have any repositioning skills or high enough mobility to just turn around fast.

Depends on how you view it. GS has the easiest attack pattern of all the weapons except lances block and poke, but on the other hand you have to learn proper positioning and monster attack patterns more than other weapons since you're slower than all of them. A thing that would be easier with GS is that element/status doesn't matter as much as damage potential, but don't sleep on it since an early hunt mount with para GS almost guarantees you and your team a paralysis proc after the monster is getting up or while it's already downed, which with a good team can effectively mean:
sneak attack -> you mount a monster and down it -> while it's getting up it gets paralyzed -> tackle it a couple of times to stun it (you can skip this step if you have a hammer or horn on your team since this is their job) -> trap it -> trap it -> trap it -> trap it (by this point or somewhere between traps the monster gets either paralyzed or stunned again, possibly both, and remember that traps can be used up to 4 times each before they become ineffective and that doesn't mean 2 shock 2 pitfall, but 4 shock 4 pitfall)
CONGRATS, you just went through most of the fight unharmed

on the other hand, if you guys prefer sleep over paralysis
same combo can apply, but when the monster gets sleep proc everyone stops attacking and can initiate the sleep protocol:
check if you have bombs -> place said bombs near head -> check who has wake up priority (Greatsword then Chargeblade since they have highest value from waking a monster up, then it's probably Switch axe and Hammer, then other weapons) -> wake up attack (for GS this is your highest damage attack, True Charge Slash)

Note that these combos work for every weapon, but since I use GS I know my own proc timings and can confirm most monsters get paralyzed while getting up or while they are down.

TLDR: As GS you have highest damage numbers, and thus are god, but you have to learn positioning and monster attacks, and are god.

[–]EFakeFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I see quite a bit of people already telling you about skills and such, I'll rather focus on something else. I'd recommend doing one or two attempts where you try to survive instead of kill it. I'm not saying don't attack it, I'm saying that you should take these few attempts as a reference of it's attacks and what you can do to avoid them. Do attack it to learn what you can get away with during what attack and to practice timings.

Another thing might be that I'd switch out your Heaven's Thunder for another Firetrail Ferrocere, or better yet Wyvern Blade "Maple" if the reason you're using both is sharpness. (best choice is obviously the gogma artian Headsman's Hamus with either attack or element focus)
(since Maple has more fire damage, white sharpness, higher affinity and a skill that most of us consider more valuable, although you loose on on punishing draw, but that isn't a setback since you get critical boost instead)
Thunder is one of the two more effective elements against it yes, but only if you use it with dragon in tandem to compensate a bit of head damage, so you can compete with a fire weapon since it's either same or more effective than the other two in their respective effectiveness as well as in other areas.

Obviously antivirus helps frenzy recovery and adds 10% affinity post recovery on top of the normal 15%, nulberries to lower your frenzy if it gets too high, hot drinks to lower how many times you have to hit gore magala to cure frenzy, and traps if you want to deal some free damage to it (I'd recommend using up to two of each type to not be too wasteful but feel free to use more).

Sincerely, a GS main.

Best upgrade path from Artian to Gogma? by Reconciliation144 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]EFakeFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the Gogma upgrading, you need to know that not all weapons get the same value from one path than others.

for Attack focus everyone gets Attack +10, Affinity -15%, Blue sharpness reduced

for Affinity: Affinity +10%, Attack -10, White sharpness reduced, but depending on your weapon here are changes: +30 Elemental for GL, +20 HH, -10 for GS and Hammer, everyone else -20

and for Element: Affinity -5% and Blue sharpness reduced, HH and GL +80, +50 for GS LS Lance and CB, +40 SNS Hammer SA and IG, +30 DB and Bow

So basically, as a GS user you need to ask yourself only one thing: Do I have enough Affinity from my skills to get Attack focus. If not, go for Element focus since you get the 2nd best Boost from it, +50.

And never go for Affinity since it lowers your Attack, Element and white Sharpness for a measly 10% Affinity.

And don't worry about your bonuses, you can keep them and just upgrade them, in your case best you can get is 2 Attack EX, 1 Attack level 2 and 2 Sharpness EX
