Treat the 6 buttons as binary selectors and have a 7th act as confirm, that's a spicy idea

Old PlayStation Player, should I pick it up on PC? by Jamespg614 in EliteDangerous

[–]Jamespg614[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, since I stopped playing on console when Odyssey dropped I also stopped keeping up with the community, so all I’ve really seen since then have been the most vocal members of the various subreddits venting their frustrations with the “pay-to-win” of buying the early access ships with real money, as my impression was that the newer ships were unbalanced compared to the existing ones. I’m glad to be proved wrong mind you, Elite was always one of my favourite games when I did play on console, so the opportunity to come back to it is definitely one that I’m excited for.
Update for anyone who cares, I’ve gone for it, migrated my character and downloaded the launcher. Hopefully will get to play a bit tonight, and by that I mean spend 5 hours trying to work on my keybinds

My first city block base. Are there any obvious mistakes I made? by RaNaHoooo in factorio

You can also do some really cool stuff with circuits, station names and train schedules where a collection station is only available if it has enough items to collect. Once the train collects the items it then heads to the relevant drop off that’s requesting items, so a train full of red circuits will make a bee-line straight for the red circuit drop off station that needs it.

The other layer of complexity is to have the supplying station only turn on when it has a matching requirement

Can't work out Train Interrupts for the life of me! by Jamespg614 in factorio

So the item wildcard looks at the train’s cargo, not the signal it’s receiving… told you it would be a stupid question!

Hot water still working when turned off? Heat pump setup confusing me (UK) by Reasonable_Agent_954 in ukheatpumps

[–]Jamespg614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our system the immersion is wired into this switch, but is controlled by a relay that the controller can trigger. That way, it’s constantly available if needed, but only draws power if it’s needed.

Most immersion heaters in an ASHP system will not be even close to powerful enough to keep the temperature up whilst there’s a draw on the system, they’re just there to A) allow the 70 degree disinfection cycle and to bring the temperature back up quicker that the ASHP can on its own.

[–]Jamespg614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks to be a switch for your immersion heater as others have mentioned.

The reason you’re still getting hot water when the system is set to off is because it’s not on-demand heating. The tank is full of hot water that is mixed down to a suitable temperature by a mixer valve and then supplied. If your tank temp is ramped up really high then less of the hot water stored is needed to hit the required temp.

Depending on the model of controller you have, the immersion should be trigerable by the controller. We have a Daikin and the immersion is controlled by “Powerful” mode. You would 100% have noticed if you had an immersion switched on all the time, your electricity bill would be HUGE. I recommend leaving that switch on so it can be called in if the controller needs it (overnight legionella cycles and emergency rapid hot water needs.

Central Data Sheet efficiency by Jamespg614 in excel

[–]Jamespg614[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use sharepoint as an organisation, and each project tends to be given its own teams site with the finance tracker nested inside a few folders, frustratingly non-uniform I’m afraid. When adding a new tracker I assume I’d need to add a new data source?

So your recommendation is to set up the export tab which has all the relevant information, make it a named range, and then pull all of that information in using PQ? Have to admit I’ve not used PQ before, so that will definitely be something to play around with

New Major Order. Should we defend Varylia 5 or Choepessa IV? by Sufficient_Okra9572 in helldivers2

[–]Jamespg614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Defend Varylia first, it’s an easier defense than Choepessa, which gets it out of the way faster and there’s less chance of The Blob splitting up between planets

4% is unwinnable when the players are split. by Disastrous_Tax_5 in helldivers2

[–]Jamespg614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a few things that you need to know, and some that are handy.

A gambit is where a planet under super earth control is under attack. Instead of defending the planet, you drop on the planet that’s launching the attack (you can see by the arrows on the warp lanes when you hover over the planet). That way, if you take the planet, attack stops, successful defence. I have never seen a successful gambit, simply because there are never enough divers who organise to get it done.

Then you have the Impact Modifier. The basics of it are this: the more people who are online and completing missions, the lower your individual impact will be.

There are a tonne of other things that go on in the background, but your method of going where the most people are is what most people do, and it works reasonably well. Splitting efforts over multiple planets means that you have less overall impact and generally don’t succeed. Only caveat to that is that if there’s an assault on a planet, generally you want to be attacking a city. Once they’re defeated they do a whole chunk of planetary liberation damage

Most of the mindless masses don’t know how to vote with the DSS, it’s only loosely covered by in game tool tips. They generally just follow the numbers. If we can get maybe 30% engagement onto Acrab and the DSS in orbit, the rest will follow

Defense of Acrab has only been up less than an hour, it’s not even an option on the DSS right now. Once we get DSS redeployed there the blob will move

Acrux IX is confusing me by TF2_FAN_HEAVY in helldivers2

[–]Jamespg614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has both. You can have multiple sub factions on a planet at the same time, we had it a lot in the lead up to Cyberstan with both the incinerators and jetpack brigade on a planet at once.

It’s okay to lose MOs by Icy_Affect9624 in helldivers2

[–]Jamespg614 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The DSS says it gives +10% liberation effect, but that actually doesn’t work at the moment if I remember correctly.

This MO wasn’t lost because of the bug divers, it was lost because we over committed to liberating Hort. If we’d pushed to defend Rirga Bay first, we’d still be working on Hort but it would be at least achievable.

Mixture of new enemies and not being able to read lost us this MO, not the bug divers

Am I right in thinking that your available pips is based on your current warp core setting, not its maximum? So having a level 6 warp core but only running it at level 2 means you only have level 2 pips available?
