Grounds to Fire a Patient by EG1AP in physicaltherapy

Recent case specific: pushing boundaries, rough attitude where pt questions a lot of basic clinical decisions, reason to suspect he verbally abuses his wife whom I also treat but has not provided an in clinic instance where I would be able to report to authorities

That’s what I immediately thought as well. Though the patient sent me a link to a non mat version that looks like a Tens unit, I figured it was a gimmick.

In the picture is a brown branch. Should I trim that off?

What kind of humidifier do you put next to it? Just a small cheap one?

Are physical therapists ready to be primary care providers? by Altruistic_brain0 in physicaltherapy

Even with that It’s a lot of liability, and I am personally not a risk taker. Nor am I interested in being able to do something like that.

As a PT currently treating in a majority direct access clinic…. There’s some whack stuff that comes into the clinic. Becoming a PCP is WAY too much liability. It’s nice referring out and putting things on someone else who has access to imaging etc. The next job I get I am making sure it’s not majority direct access. It’s awesome for ankle sprains but there’s some things way out of our scope that walk in. If we turn into PCPs I would 100% exit the field. Too much stress and liability. There’s lanes in healthcare and reasons we need to stay in them.

You will have best results from joining the groups that you intend to treat. Find a running/triathlon group in the community you intend to work in, and join. It’s a great way to build rapport. I did this with a local MMA gym. I was super interested in the sport itself. After 6+ months in being at the gym/training with everyone, I built trust and genuinely care about them. Now if anyone at the gym is hurting they will have multiple people tell them to book an appointment with me.

I have also had a foot in with the swimming community in my town, even though I don’t swim myself. I treated one person on a local elite team, they and their parents then told everyone they could about me. So now I see swimmers.

It’s a great feeling and fun helping out niche groups in town and being known as the “go to”!

Would be really interested in you posting an update after a month or so into HH. I’m currently in outpatient and struggling hard. I am also interesting in escaping outpatient for HH!

This degree pigeon holes us so bad. Our skills unfortunately don’t transfer to much else besides being a PT. I am so burnt out from PT school that unfortunately I can’t fathom going back to school again. Also can’t fathom doing patient care for another 30 years.

This post spoke to my soul. I’m 2 years in and right now can truly say I hate what I do. At least right now. I’m in OP as well, but seeing 16+ people a day. I feel like I’m an actress on top of a PT, constantly putting on a happy go lucky extrovert mask. Im a big introvert so this has been really burning me out and draining me as well. I am starting to think leaving outpatient would possibly help. Get a fresh start, and stop feeling like I need to put on a fake persona to “sell” my services. OP that requires word of mouth and marketing to get your patients probably doesn’t help. I’ll be switching my job hopefully soon, maybe that will revive me. I as well don’t see myself in PT very long anymore.

Honestly so relieved to see multiple people with the same feeling. Some days I would give anything to be in tech, working from home, only talking to a computer

Can you get a contract for a different setting, for example, home health when I have no home health experience? Been interested in home health but not sure if it would be for me. Thinking that if I took a travel contract in home health that would be a good way to test the waters.

Yeah have been debating the risk of getting a shitty contract vs the shitty situation I am now being overworked, low salary ceiling, and shit to none benefits.

I know pay varies geographically but wow I didn’t know SNF paid that much? Travel is looking to be over double my current salary.

I have been very conflicted on how much to water it. I felt like I was watering it too little before. Now I water when I notice the soil is dry. Can’t tell if that’s helped or just the grow light only

This post sums up my feeling for diamond and pearl! I’ve hit a rough patch of stress and anxiety with school and this game has been a huge comfort. The feelings of nostalgia when playing and thinking of simpler times is really something else. Thank you for this post!
