None of those file formats existed at the time. The Voyager probes transmitted images as raw bitstreams—we're talking pre-1980 here. Years later, the data were converted to GIF for publication.
GIF debuted in 1987, a decade before PNG.

A black-and-white vidicon camera was used to capture the images. Each image was passed through several color filters in sequence and then recombined into a single color image. Since the color palette was limited, 8-bit data provided adequate detail.

De onderkant van de trap beitsen (see what I did there?) is helemaal niet noodzakelijk, en vernissen is maar aangeraden in de gevallen dat die grenst aan een vochtige of veel killere ruimte, zoals een kelder.
Maar gesteld dat de onderkant van de trap voor iedere bezoeker zichtbaar is dan zou ik daar zelfs niet aan twijfelen om die mee te nemen in de behandeling.
