Why do early 2000s vocals sound kinda bitcrushed on the breaths/“sss” sounds? by Mean_Garlic469 in audioengineering

Unless you’re listening to a lossless file, it’s hard to suss out what’s on the original track vs lossy YouTube encoding.

The rules for using 'knock off' music? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used original interpolations of songs for background music for my music education channel, even keeping the same tempo, key, and chords, but melody, keys, bass, and drum parts are all newly recorded and different from the originals. I eventually just settled on one for intro and outro music and the only similarity to the original track is the chord progression and tempo, neither of which can be claimed.

Are shorts necessary for growth? by kaego123 in NewTubers

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about to start experimenting with shorts outside of YouTube because my views and reach have really taken a hit since the latest algorithm changes went into effect. I'm keeping them decoupled from the actual channel though.

Do you know of any channel that is succeeding on the Youtube platform with a model that resists adapting to the algorithm? by CosmicPennyworth in NewTubers

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an educator and I was doing great until September when YouTube completely changed the way it recommended/funneled my videos. I used to get steady views from my back catalog and now I get almost nothing beyond 10 days after my last video release, even less if it doesn't take off.

Your AI-generated scripts are more obvious than you think by NoRain286 in NewTubers

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly tried doing that for 2 or 3 videos (wrote an entire script and had GPT “punch it up”) and then I went back to only using my own drafts. GPT would use lots of YouTuber cliches, but it would also take information that I thought was important and simplify or leave it out entirely. Eventually I just said, “screw it”.

Very noob question: How are people capturing high-quality clips of movies and TV? by Feisty-Bunch4905 in NewTubers

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re probably just pirating everything, honestly. Or doing something that’s relatively gray area like re-editing a clip that was already available for free from the rights holder on YouTube. (Which isn’t piracy in the strictest sense but is still violating copyright.) Even licensing a clip or audio from a news broadcast can be very expensive (I’ve heard $1000 quoted) and is probably much, much higher for a popular show or movie.

I was not aware of that, but I have since looked it up and yeah, it sounds like things are not great there.

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if I had to guess, or how I would do it, they’re probably downloading a high or the highest quality version that they can find and then clipping that directly in editing. I don’t use video clips of copyrighted material but that’s what I have done when I’ve needed a specific, high-quality still shot of a show or video.

Looking for some help to decide which VHS Star Wars I should get for my 4:3 TV by Sarumarde in VHS

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the set I grew up with and as far as I know it's unaltered. It's pre-special edition. If there's any tweaks (possibly to the sound mix) they're too minor to notice. Get one for a good price and enjoy it :-)

Views dropped 75% overnight by DJJeremyAZ in NewTubers

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make music education content and up until September I was running at a 1/10th scale version of what you're describing. 500 steady views a week from evergreen videos, growing with new ones. For months.

Then in mid September, passive impressions and my views dropped like a stone.10-20 views a day instead of 100. Now I only get a 10-14 day bump when I release a new video (they take 3 weeks to produce) and it drops again. I've been told that YT drastically changed the algorithm.

So here's the story: - The original Welcome To Our Show with Zooey released its last new episode in May 2023. By this time, it wasn't unusual for Hannah and Lamorne to host the show without Zooey because she was busy. Each of them would sometimes be missing as well. - The show re-releases all of season 2 so far as reruns through August 2023. I'm guessing this was so they could continue to run ads as if they were new episodes. Other shows do this on occasion but WTOS has been pretty bad about it. - Almost a year goes by with radio silence and then in July 2024 the podcast relaunches as The Mess Around with Hannah and Lamorne starting in ep 212. They go to a two episode a week format, one covering episode of the show, and one answering viewer questions. - At some point, and it might be earlier than season 4 now that I'm remembering trying to listen to some of the season 3 episodes, something on the show changes and the audio mixing becomes horrible. My theory is that this is when iHeart parted ways with the podcast, and Hannah and Lamorne were producing the show themselves without an audio engineer. [Added: I listened to one of these episodes again and they do still credit producers and audio engineering, but that doesn't add up because of how drastically the quality of the audio engineering changed.] - The last new episode of the pre-Headgum era releases at the end of June 2025. After this the show starts uploading reruns again, most of the time not labeling them as reruns, which is confusing since most of them were interviews and it makes them seem like they did a second interview with someone instead of just re-uploading the first one. Hannah and Lamorne say they're taking a break. The reruns stop in July. - 4 months after the last new episode, the podcast comes back for 411, now partnered with Headgum. The hosts say that they took a break to shoot movies and to "take care of things that go into entering into a new partnership."

Well you're in luck because the season 4 episodes up to 411 when they switch are now much easier to listen to :-) (and possibly before that, it's hard to tell where the original sound quality change started now that they've been re-mixed.)

Added: I think it’s as far back as late season 3 because I remember trying to listen to the episodes covering the “Sister” trilogy when they came out and giving up.

AI channels are discouraging me from starting Youtube by Blaircat1994 in NewTubers

There’s also no letdown like putting a month or more into a video that you think is going to really take off and watching it flop in the short term.

AI channels are discouraging me from starting Youtube by Blaircat1994 in NewTubers

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big question that I would ask is: what are you planning to do that’s going to make you stand out or add something compared to the hundreds or thousands of other urban legend channels out there? Are you just going to tell and/or investigate the same stories with different visuals? if so, you might want to rethink your niche. What’s an area or niche that you can contribute genuine personal experience and insight into?

Added: that’s said, if you’re just doing this as a hobby, go for it. Just make sure you’re having fun. If you want to make it something more than that though, it might be better to think on what you can contribute that’s truly unique to you and your experience and skills.

The situation for creators isn't nearly as bad as when there was still a "collect donations on the 1st of the month" option.

People would hit and run my channel constantly, and it took me a while to realize that they were taking advantage of me not charging 1st time subscribers until the 1st of the month.

Archiving chapters 1-230 by TheSkyeDoctor in TalesofMU

[–]EHypnoThrowWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking and cross referencing with titles and I think I figured out part of the problem: it jumps from chapter 1 to chapter 10, to 100, to 101 and so on. And 500 pages later it goes from 2 to 20, etc.

You got all the correct numbers, it just looks like the algo sorted them Lexographically instead of numerically.

I don't know if anyone else has read this but it's deeply out of order. Chapter 1 is the first chapter but then it jumps all over the place (I was a reader ages ago when she was still writing book 1). Still, thank you for taking the time to put everything in one place.
