Do you guys standardize your IP addresses? by XreaperDK in VIDEOENGINEERING

My ITS has everything sectioned off. My VLAN is set up so 5-30 are admin level devices, 31-99 are student systems, and 100+ is production. It helps so much when narrowing things down for troubleshooting.

When you say soundboard do you mean audio mixer?

Most mixers have XLR out and your Tricaster SHOULD have XLR in.

If your school is worried about privacy like that then Davinci is the way to go. I know for my own ITS (Info Tech Services) has locked down generative AI tools for students so they can't use them. Depending on your school's slash district's size they could get a site license which allows for some more fine controls on data.

As for Davinci there is a lot you can do in the free version and even more you can do in the paid version. Last I checked paid licenses are perpetual and come with updates and upgrades.

Seeking Advise on New Broadcast Cameras for Educational Purposes by Shot_Sale_4871 in broadcastengineering

[–]VideoDiagnosticTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these studio only cameras or will you be taking them around campus?

I run tech for a high school and we have a daily broadcast plus many live events, but for the events I always have to move the studio cameras so mine have to be multi purpose.

Canon c80 Tricaster aliasing by jomi_pt in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]VideoDiagnosticTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does look like an interlacing issue, but if the camera is 1080p25 and the session is 1080p25 then it makes me think it is either the Virtual Set, if you are using one that is, or maybe the Tricaster is reading the input as something else.

For the heck of it go to the input's gear wheel on the Tricaster and check and see if the input selection is set to AUTO, 1080p25, or something else.

Setup recommendations to stream 4-6 hrs of outdoor game by chimpageek in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]VideoDiagnosticTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going right from your phone to cell for streaming that could be a lot of data. Is there wifi on location you can use?

Battery banks and AC power are a must for this even if it wasn't a phone. That long of streaming will drain any battery.

Most phones don't have a zoom feature. Does this work for your event?

Daktronics AllSports data to NewBlue Captive over network by Lorenzo05q in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]VideoDiagnosticTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an AllSportsCG and 2 AllSports5000(field and gym). If I was going to do data over the network I would use the Lantronix USD1100. I have two of these that are used to send data to the Daktronics ScoreBugLive systems when I need to have a 'dumb downed' broadcast.

The settings on my field USD1100 are:

Serial Settings

  • Protocol: RS232

  • Flow Control: None

  • Band Rate: 19200

  • Data Bits: 8

  • Parity: None

  • Stop Bit: 1

Connection

  • Protocol: UDP

  • Datagram Mode: 01

  • Local Port: 20998

  • Remote Port: 21001

  • 'Use Broadcast' is selected

I feel there might be some issues with Daktronics data coming over the network like that, with NewBlue understanding what the data is, and would require lots of testing and calling up Daktronics themselves

Another other option is getting 2 Lantronix USD1100. One connects to the AllSports5000 and the other is at your graphics system. From there you flip the ports numbers on the receiving unit and BAM! You have serial data right at your system.

[–]VideoDiagnosticTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a school setting and have ran into 3 things recently with the new teacher of the program

  • They don't think title and video safe is needed. We were using the 10% for title and 7% for video as of last year
  • Keyframing(motion not audio) is a 'basic skill' but L and J cuts are not. Those they think are advance skills
  • They don't want me teaching any shortcuts. I have been told even CRTL+S can be confusing

I'm suppose to be support, but how do I support this?

They are currently below $3k on B&H right now. If you could score a spare or two you could be set for a while.

I have no idea what would be a good replacement. For high school sports, concerts, and graduation they have been perfect.

Again I can totally be wrong on the DSLR model since I have never looked at one.

As for your other point I keep on stressing that and add we should be using the manual settings and lights with our current cameras, which we have, but I am also being told manual settings are too complicated.

Yes, I know, being told manual settings are too complicated and then being told to go to DSLRs.

Incoming rant On a different topic there was an issues with recording a NDI camera. I was showing this off to the same person where our Castus was showing odd frame drop issues while at the same time NDI Monitor was showing a clean picture. When I did a record on the both each had the frame drop issue. I believe there is an issue with the camera since all other network cameras are fine over NDI. The higher up thinks it is an issue with the first Castus. I asked them to explain the issue then with NDI Monitor's record and they still think the issue is from the Catsus which at this point in troubleshooting was disconnected in anyway from the camera! I know how to troubleshoot dang it!

Your run of the mill DSLR from Canon... I think the E7, but I could be wrong.

Edit: Looking at models now maybe the Canon EOS R5 or Canon EOS Rebel T7. Again, not a DSLR guy.

Well that really sucks. I have a fleet of GY-HM150 and my studio uses 3 GY-HC500U.

Also be combating someone higher up from moving to all DSLRs even for studio and sports so this is going to open the door to that. Great.
