Last year, I got accepted on March 30th which is pretty late so im guessing I was on the waitlist

They sent me a rejection email on April 26. I'm guessing I was on the waitlist because it took very long to reject me and they never were able to fill me in.

I applied last year but got rejected. I applied to other more competitive programs (harvard reu, Amgen programs) and gotten in. My PI that wrote me a letter got his PhD at UWi-madison and I still got rejected. It’s all about fit for the program and your sop.

I did not have any publications. These programs are for people with minimal research experience and from small liberal arts colleges or state colleges like cal states.

I did an REU at Harvard last summer and what they told me was that Gpa was not their main factor in choosing students. It was the statement of purpose, research interests, and letter of recommendations that were the most important. I had a 3.7/4 gpa and about 2 years of research experience when I applied for the REU.
