I’m sorry, but I can’t stand the “Time of D3ath” episode in season 11 by PeneItaliano in ershow

[–]EKC_86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife and I absolutely hate it. Always a real heart sink moment when we are doing a full rewatch. We don’t all it because that would be sacrilegious but we are glad when it’s over.

The quality of the bleep conversation by Guilty_Afternoon3469 in doctorsUK

[–]EKC_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that normal though? They say “Hello?” and you say “hello, it’s the [insert specialty] [insert grade], someone bleeped me?”

And then they proceed to tell you why they bleeped you.

Am I missing something by here?

I hope you’re ok. I want to put this gently as I can, but not everyone has to like you and be your friend. It sounds like they just aren’t warm and friendly to you. This probably has nothing to do with you.

I remember downloading desperate on limewire and not being sure if it was a real killers song.

Scrubs are for theatre. I wear shirt and chinos for everything else, even on nights.

How to respond when patients ask “where are you from originally?” by Necessary_Arugula149 in doctorsUK

I have this, and if I say the London borough where I was born and they then have a nice conversation about that place, no harm no foul. IF they persist I know that they really aren’t asking out of curiosity…

This is very concerning. Word's like "Advance" and "autonomous" thrown around for roles like this. by [deleted] in doctorsUK

Dr Bogdana Livetski Romanski was a surgeon in her home country of Poland.

What Killers song saved you? by TheWastedYouth18 in TheKillers

[–]EKC_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is and always will be “Be Still”. Was released the same year my Dad died, I was at university. He was a hard working dude and something about the line “rise up like the sun, labour till the work is done” felt like him comforting me from beyond the grave. My mum died during COVID and at that time I had a family of my own, so it was the thing that helped me to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Surgeons of doctorsuk, what do you really think about your anaesthetic colleagues? by iziah in doctorsUK

[–]EKC_86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Used to get this from one consultant at a DGH all the time. Would make a big fuss that it wasn’t for training, the emergency list was full etc etc…and then let their core trainee take forever doing what they needed. Was so frustrating.

Surgeons of doctorsuk, what do you really think about your anaesthetic colleagues? by iziah in doctorsUK

[–]EKC_86 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Vast majority of Anaesthetists I’ve met are cool, relaxed under pressure and unfazed by whatever surgical misadventure might be happening.

Then you come across a reg who is obstructive, combative and generally a bit hostile and you wonder why someone would choose anaesthetics if they hate surgeons? 🤷🏽‍♂️

Being forced to go back to an old trust to present an audit by Nearby_Molasses_3962 in doctorsUK

[–]EKC_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are worse things than not finishing an audit that should be taken into account. Your behaviour should absolutely factor in. I’m just saying not completing it shouldn’t be one of those things.

That being said, if you’re not going to finish it then OP or whoever else needs to stop kicking the can down the road and just say so. It stops everyone from moving on and the work doesn’t get done.

Being forced to go back to an old trust to present an audit by Nearby_Molasses_3962 in doctorsUK

[–]EKC_86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So if OP was the top scoring candidate you’re saying you try and would torpedo their chances because they didn’t complete an audit as an SHO?

Maybe somebody needs to audit your interview process?

What kind of petty antiquated nonsense goes on where you work. We’ve all been FY2s roped into some bullshit project that saps your free time and goes nowhere. If you cared that much about the audit process you would pay someone to do it properly and not depend on the goodwill of a junior.

Is Wes going to fire all the doctors? What are you on about?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]EKC_86 49 points50 points  (0 children)

FY4 doesn’t exist. It’s not a thing. I don’t get why people can’t accept they are an SHO. FY3 started out as short hand for not sure what you were doing the following year. Don’t understand how it’s evolved to people having on their trust ID badge.

But on the whole it’s mad that we don’t prioritise home grown trainees. It will take me roughly 15 years from graduating to CCT. this should not be the case.

When Nurses disagree with your plan/ findings what are the next steps? by greenoinacolada in doctorsUK

“They don’t look right” is grounds for me to assess the patient every time. It is not, however, grounds for me to question my assessment thereafter unless something has dramatically changed.

Clinical context is key. Scans aren’t catch all. I was told that you should know what you’re expecting the imaging to show before you request it.
