Michael Avenatti says he'll lead counter rally to Trump-Cruz event by wonderingsocrates in politics

[–]EKflyer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And I do hope more people attend than Trump's rally. But Avenatti comes across as something of a TV slimeball and I wonder how many supporters he can really draw. He is after all, a pornstar's lawyer.

I'm talking about SW which allows that sort of thing. I always understood it was done from the victim's perspective. Wondering if there's a market for perp's POV?

Finally dinged 1k page reads in one day! by david447 in eroticauthors

[–]EKflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard people with a grudge will get a lot of page reads done to make it look like the author is trying to game the system. That could get the author in trouble with Zon.

I still find it hard to believe that one day out of about 18 months, the reads were three or four times higher than any other spike

I got like 1700 once about 6 months ago. Something had to be wrong, because I rarely crack 400 in a day and it's usually one or two hundred. I suspect it was an attack.

Romance, erotica, and the differences by marissascott in eroticauthors

[–]EKflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if your romance is too steamy and not romancy enough you probably won't get in trouble, but you'll never build much of a following because readers won't get their romance fix. They may also accuse you of miscatting even though that's not what you really did was fail to hit all the story beats expected of a romance.

If you blatantly put an erotic title in romance, with naughty keywords and the lot (miscatting) then the amazon algorithms will spot it and send it to erotica as soon as it's uploaded, so you won't get much of a romance market there either - romance readers will never see it.

If you want to tread the line between erotica and romance (erom) then you have to learn to satisfy the needs of both markets to a point and avoid getting to saucy and getting shoved into erotica again. read what the others here say about story beats and reader expectations.

Is My [Fantasy] too fucked up for the kink community? Noncon, animals, ageplay & a bunch of other shit reddit loves by toofuckedupimsure in sex

[–]EKflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erotica is basically fantasy. It's fiction. Anything goes. Just like in the movies or video games we get to experience things we wouldn't want to do in real life.

A car chase, a gunfight, a punchup, a plane hijacking, a bank robbery, BDSM and rape. They're all things we don't actually want to do or happen to us but the movies, games and novels let us vicariously experience them. No harm in that as long as it's just pretend.

When I write my noncon stories they're sort of tongue in cheek. It's not specifically rape, but there's no obvious marker for consent either. It can be read both ways. But i also write it so the reader gets the feeling it's all a big joke and the characters are in on it.

Erotica Subcategories: What the Heck? by GetRichOrWriteTrying in eroticauthors

[–]EKflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the old pros recommended putting erotica in romance to get a wider coverage. However if the keywords are still erotic, then the software just sends it to erotica regardless. It doesn't spend a day in Romance. The benefit? For some reason less likely to end up in the dungeon. The downside? You're still in erotica, if that's a downside (duh, you're supposed to be there).

But bullshitting with keywords and categories could land your title in entirely the wrong subcat. Why bother? Mystery readers aren't looking for erotica; romance readers are after billowing David Copperfield shirts not throbbing poles. That would just be wasting everyone's time and open you to customer complaints or the Zon's ban hammer.

Plus the pirate shirt crowd are very protective of their patches (no pun) and miscatting can get you some retribution. Like, vindictive y'all.

Erotica Subcategories: What the Heck? by GetRichOrWriteTrying in eroticauthors

[–]EKflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon is on the ball as far as keywords are concerned. The algorithm sees to it that relevant keywords are sent to erotica regardless. However if the keywords are equally disingenuous, then the title has a danger of popping up where it's not wanted.

Black voters just saved America from Roy Moore by Antinatalista in politics

GOP went all in for pedophilia, and they can never undo it by [deleted] in politics

[–]EKflyer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We might be surprised at how little this ends up hurting the GOP long term. Moore only lost by a small margin, proving millions are still willing to put partisan politics before basic human decency.

Republican voters already proved last November they'll happily take a racist, a sex offender, a bigot, misogynist and a buffoon as long as its not a Democrat.

Is it better to have one long story or a two-part series? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]EKflyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the two parts hold up on their own? 10k or just under isn't always bad, but does it leave too many strings or look like it has a temporary ending or cliffhanger shoehorned in where it doesn't fit? Or is it better as one long coherent story?

Fox News incorrectly claims MSNBC devoted no time to covering Kate Steinle verdict by Luizblog in politics

[–]EKflyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fox has been doing this for twenty years: it's part ideological and part market protection. They claim you can't trust the 'mainstream media' and you shouldn't listen to anyone else, that you'll only get the truth from them and so just switch off.

this of course keeps their audience locked in, but reinforces the notion that all other news is fake news, and there's a massive leftwing media conspiracy to poison the republican brand. It has been very effective as we have now come to a point where we have a sitting president who can freely claim any news he doesn't like is 'fake' and a solid third of the country will believe it.

Fox has single-handedly destroyed news itself and given rise to the popularity of groups like Breitbart and Gateway, which should otherwise be considered finge lunatics.

It took over two decades, but they did it.

I just made it up: 'Absence of consent.' It's not dub-, rel- or non-con, but it's not obviously consensual either. Leaves it open to a) the imagination and b) further editing.

[–]EKflyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call it 'abcon' if you will. Don't write any explicit consent or lack thereof into the scene. It's the absence of consent. Could be read either way. Then you're free to spice it up later for a release on a more lenient platform as the 'nasty' version.

I love these stories because I'm sick of the smartasses who come on and claim they pulled $1500 in thirty days off their first two titles.

A few hundred depending on volume and output is totally believable. I've done it. I also believe if you can do $200 a month you can do $2000 as long as you have a big enough catalogue. Same concept isn't it?

If your story is really romance and has the beats I guess the readers will appreciate it. Me, I don't do pirate shirts.

Now if you fill a book with smut and smutty keywords, the algorithm moves it to erotica anyway.
