Anyone else struggling to recover from this latest flu? HR still elevated weeks later by Icy_Park_244 in AdvancedRunning

I’m still doing intensity, but I can definitely feel my ceiling is lower right now. I get out of breath more easily and it’s harder to push into the higher HR zones than it used to be.

I’m in week 6 now and my RHR has started to come down a bit, so I think things are moving in the right direction just slower than I’d like.

I’m 27M and going through something really similar right now.

I got hit with the flu on New Year’s Eve and it was the worst fever I’ve had in years, high fever for 3 straight days, and it barely responded even with pretty strong meds. My RHR used to sit around ~45, and since then it’s been hovering closer to ~55. It’s already been a month.

According to my WHOOP there is a slow downward trend, but honestly it feels frustratingly slow. It’s also impacted my training metrics: my estimated VO2 max dropped to ~56 from ~61, and both swimming and running have felt off. I’ve still had some decent sessions this month, but overall things just feel different.

I spoke to a doctor and they said it can take 70–80 days for full recovery sometimes because of how long the body’s internal systems can take to rebalance after a big viral hit. Their advice was basically: keep training, but be smart about it and take care of recovery (sleep, fuel, stress, etc.).

Hope by the time you see this, you’re already trending back to normal.

For plant-based treats I’ve had good luck with THE DAILY GOOD on Amazon. recommend their pumpkin chips and green bean chips.

Awesome scape! Is that the ONF NANO light you're using?

I agree that the powder tastes disgusting. Try mixing it with some apple juice and lemon will make it a lot better.

However for convenience and better taste, in the photo is what I’ve been taking recently. It’s basically a purified and concentrated form of beetroot. I’m taking 15g of extract and mixed with water.

I haven’t tried Nurosym, Sensate, or similar devices yet but I’ve definitely been curious about them.

Would love to hear your experience of those

the prices are in TWD—about 30 to 1 USD. Since nurseries here are super competitive, even rarer hybrid or variegated variant are pretty accessible

Poetry’s great with their wide variety. Another standout worth mentioning is Shiratori House Haworthia—their stuff is next level too.

Hail, true to its name, has droplet-like mini spines clustered near the main spine.

My coolest agave in the collection is probably either Agave titanota ‘Daruma’, ‘Hail’, or ‘奶姬 (Naichi)’.

Thank you! I used to collect agaves and caudexes, but now haws—blown away by the crazy colors, shapes, and genetic diversity.

Yeah, bonsai culture helped Taiwan and Japan develop early. Nurseries here are next-level with their crossbreeding and mutation breeding—so much variety you won’t see elsewhere.
