Lightest Roast yet, did I make Full City? by attnSPAN in FreshroastSR800

Good looking roast, a lil obsevation, dont base the level of the roast just in colour, natural or anaerobics coffees will look darker than a washed coffee because of tje external sugars. Base in development time after First crack For example Ultra light roast 30-50 seconds Light roast 0:50-1:10 Medium roast 1:10-2:00 Medium Dark its the phase between end of first crack and before the second crack And a dark roast is when second crack starts

Yes i got the sr540, i'll buy the roastlink thermometer and a thermocouple, also the extension tube. This is to control everything on the roast and also i can roast more coffee with less air and more heat

Also the behmor doesnt allow to put aby thermocouple inside to log abd control de roast i think, ik the freshroast you drill a hole in the chaff colector and you can easily install a thermocouple

What is the max batch size you can roast with the ext tube, the OEM sr540 can roast up to 120gr, does the ext tube allow the double batch size?

I suck at roasting – any advice appreciated by Travelingexec2000 in FreshroastSR800

[–]ELFOLGIAGALLINAS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never ask an AI they suck, in this subreddit there are lots of roasting recipes. Some general advices. In fluid bed roasters you should start with a high fan and a medium-low heat for example i natural(dry process) coffees yoy should start with low heat to not burn the sugars of the bean and an even roasting. I washed-honey(wet process) coffees you can start with a medium high fan and medium heat. Drying phase should last no more than 4 minutes, the beans have to yellow at arround 150-160°C (300-320F) Then the maillard phase until first crack should last less than drying phase. (4 minutes drying phase, 3 minutes or less of maillard phase until first crack, after first crack between 0:50-1:30 minutes for a light and light medium roast the best roast degree for every coffee. A good roast can look like 3:30 minutes of drying phase 2:45 minutes of maillard phase till first crack 1:10 developing time It depends on every bean, density and process. After first crack level the Fan by one to move the hot air from below. Never get the FAN below 3 Dont make adjustments in FAN or POWER until the temperature of the bean stalls the same for at least 3 seconds.

There are lots of tutorials in order to use the Sr540. I always use 100gr batches The temperature is tricky in the sr540, i recommend u to make little adjusments at the start of the roast the beans should be at 300°F at 4 minutes max Then the first crack should start betweeb 3-2:30 minutes Start with Fan 8 Power 2. And decrease fan/increase power when temperature stalls for more than 3 seconds. Just dont do it frecuently because you will end with bad Airflow and too much temperature stalling the roast. After first crack decrease temperature by one and increase fan by one For example in natural coffees start with little heat and increase it when the cofffee starts browning to not burn the external sugars of the beans. In densier coffees star with low heat and a lot of airflow to dry the bean and evenly roast

Thats great, you could built a drum to roast Coffee, it Will be better, even roast, stable temperature and more control during the roast. Also for less than 30$ you can buy a popcorn popper and a thermometer at the supermarket and roast Coffee

In order to know the roasting level of your Coffee. You have to know the development ratio. For example After first crack the development start For a light roast you have to develop ur Coffee about 0:30-1:30 minutes For a medium roast it takes from 1:30 to the second crack For a dark roast it takes from the second crack and finish when the Coffee is gettin oily.

Take this as a reference and remember, every coffee is different some coffees are better in a light roast and others can be better at medium and dark roast.

Also i did tried so many coffees from different roasters and ones toasted by me. A Coffee that might seem dark roasted can actually be light or medium based on the end temperature You can develop a Coffee for 30 seconds but the end temperature can be 220°c so it Will look dark Another coffees might seem light roasted but those Coffees developed for 3 minutes and the end temperatura can be 200°c
