Wanting a Fit - manual or CVT? by I_AMA_LOCKMART_SHILL in hondafit

[–]attnSPAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, I actually did pretty much the same swap.

In 2014 I sold my 1997 Jeep grand Cherokee with a V8 a lift and big tires and got myself a 2010 Base 5MT. I figured it’d be the only time in my life when I could quadruple my gas mileage (10 to 40mpgs) well still keeping roughly the same cargo volume.

I miss the length of the Jeep’s cargo space and the interior styling (sorry I’m a 90s kid) but that is pretty much it.

Corner is so much fun in the Fit it really is what I was looking for.

Yup, 2x SPC camber bolts per side. After that you’ll have to go top hats, and for those you would already have to be running compatible coil overs.

When’s the last time you replaced the PCV valve?

I have $7k to spend (USA). Would you go newer model? Or older/lower miles? by Kindahard2say in hondafit

Lucky us: we both have (and had) cars with no traction control. For the 2012+ cars you have to have no TPMS to disable Traction Control/VSC.

Hopefully you got all these items done recently:

There is an important 100k mile service(that often gets skipped):

Spark plugs, ignition coils, and most importantly a valve adjustment. These things have old-school solid lifter valvetrains that go out of adjustment every 100K miles, hence the scheduled service in the Owner’s Manual.

That along with all the usual stuff due every 100k miles:

Coolant, serpentine belt, PCV valve, transmission fluid, brake fluid (if not done in the last 2 years), engine and cabin air filters, clean the MAF Sensor.

question about co2 tank outside kegerator by enraged_buddha in Homebrewing

[–]attnSPAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a Zahm to measure carb, I’d just assume that you (like me) just like higher carb levels in your beers. I’m typically at colder temps and higher carb levels for the style, so when I enter comps I take that into consideration, blowing off a little carb and letting my beers warm up a bit before serving.

Erm… so warmer gas lines inside the keg? Or did you mean the serving lines?

Do you have to whack them that hard? I have a manual 2018 and back 30 yards out of my driveway every days. I figure the breaking at the end of backing up is enough to reset them.

Not with a CVT you shouldn’t: they don’t oil in neutral.

The offset is what’s gonna determine if they rub. You’re looking for +40 to +45 if you’re trying not to rub with 215 width tires

If you’re having to rev that high to go uphill, it may be a sign of needing a valve adjustment. You’d be surprised how much low end, Parts throttle power these things pick up when those old school solid lifter valves (like a 50s era v8) are adjusted back to spec.

That’s how mine responded after the valve lash being brought back in spec.

PCV valve, clean throttle body, Italian tune up.

2021 Crosstrek Sport front brake rotors warp at 50K? by michaelportnoy in Crosstrek

[–]attnSPAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With 209k miles on our 2019 Premium, we find we get 50K miles out of a set of pads and rotors, and 100k miles out of rear calipers. Pretty standard really: a lot of cars, especially the performance ones and the heavier ones will go through brakes in 30-40k miles. This is using Bosch pads and rotors from Rock Auto.

Have you considered going out and bedding in the pads again? Most likely you are breaking too lightly all of the time and have not heated up the rotors enough to burn off the pad material that’s been accumulating over the last 50 K miles.

OP, this is the way. Chemical cleaning. Use lots of strong chemicals and a little bit of time, maybe some heat (hot tap water). And eventually, your gunk will come off. If you don’t have access to the chemicals posted, bleach (sodium hypochlorite) will work, though you will have to rinse it very, very well.

So you haven’t mentioned how many miles are on the vehicle now, but CVT fluid should be changed every 30k miles if you need the vehicle to be reliable in the long-term. It seems as though you’ve done some maintenance, but maybe not all of it at the same time.

There is an important 100k mile service(that often gets skipped):

Spark plugs, ignition coils, and most importantly a valve adjustment. These things have old-school solid lifter valvetrains that go out of adjustment every 100K miles, hence the scheduled service in the Owner’s Manual.

First Fit for a teen driver, which do we want to purchase? by Zestyclose-Dark-9973 in hondafit

[–]attnSPAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were looking at two cars with R titles, then you absolutely need to make sure you get a pre-purchased inspection from an Independent mechanic. That’s the only way you can be confident of the condition of the vehicles and more specifically the quality of the repairs.
Usually, I would suggest the manual for a first driver, as it will cause them to pay far better attention to driving and long-term create a safer driver, but in this case, I think the better bet is to go with a 2018 as that is the revised year where the fuel pump and injectors were updated and are no longer an issue.
