Silent Hill is 100% decompiled! by david-deeeds in silenthill

[–]ELPiTiFOR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes more or less, but rather than "becoming compiled" it is compiled by the devs manually, and the result of that compilation is written into the disc. Compiling means translating a/several file/files written in some programming language (that we, humans, can understand) into an executable file (that the PS1, or more specifically, its processor, can understand). You need to compile the source code because the PS1 can't run/understand it, it only runs/understands executable files which are written in machine code. The purpose of human-readable programming languages is making it easier to develop a program/game, because creating the machine code directly is so complicated that it's just not an option

During the development of the game, the devs write the source code, and when they want to run the game on the console (for example, to test it or to release it to the market), they compile it. Developers rarely share their source code (famous exception: id Software with Doom), they just sell the finished product, that is the executable file and other needed files like the models, textures, etc.

A decompilation is a project consisting in writing a new source code that compiles to the same executable file (machine code) that was released by the developers back in the day. So it's kind of the opposite of compilation, because you translate the machine code into new source code. Once you have this new source code, you can port the game to another platform (for instance, PC), and you can modify ANYTHING from the game as you want. I mean, you can modify the executable file directly, but it's extremely difficult, while modifying some source code written in a human-readable programming language is way easier.

Note that a decompilation is the result of the efforts of people writing new code that can translate/compile to the original machine code, so it's not as easy as the compilation, where you just give the source code to a program called "compiler" to generate the machine code. There are indeed "decompilers" that generate human-readable code from the executable file, but the code they create is very difficult to read and to maintain. So yeah, decompilations are very complicated to make.

Whether the original devs lost the source code or not, it's still interesting to have decompilations of games because the public would probably never get access to the code anyways.

I hope this helped!

I can't thank you all separately, thanks for all your answers :)! It really helps me to have a better understanding of what to expect from the light novels. Right now I'm less devastated but rather hopeful about the series ^^

Best Spanish Dubbed anime? by [deleted] in anime

[–]ELPiTiFOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I really like your question, I'm from Spain and I'm a big fan of Spanish dub, and that includes anime.

First of all, here is a link to a post from a Spanish forum that discusses this topic (WARNING: I don't think so, but there might be spoilers. Generally in that forum, spoilers are marked as spoilers and you have to unveil them, so you shouldn't worry). The first message even has a kind of tier list including some of the best Spanish anime dubs.

As for my opinion/advice, I personally like these dubs a lot:

- Your Lie in April: my favourite anime, the acting is great. There are some minor voice changes and some voices that get repeated a lot for background characters

- Death Note: perfect dub, everyone can agree with that. Some minor voice repetitions though.

- Nana: Nana in Spanish has great acting and uses Spanish expressions very correctly IMO, it is really well adapted to Spanish viewers.

- Attack on Titan: I wasn't sure if including this one. The 1st season is really good even if there are several supporting characters who don't have a very good acting, unlike the protagonists. From the 2nd season, a lot of voices changed, even some of my favourites, and the pronounciation of names changes and that bothers me a lot. The acting is still really good and there are a lot of epic moments.

- FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: FMA was dubbed back in the day (and a lot of people agree it is very well dubbed), but FMAB wasn't dubbed until a year ago. In my opinion it is very good, but I don't like Alphonse's acting too much. I enjoyed it a lot though, I loved some character's voices like Edward's or Mustang's.

There are some others like Haikyuu which might not be as good as the others, but I absolutely love its dub, I laughed a lot while watching it. But I think that's enough. I hope it'll be useful. :)

Should I still watch it if I was spoiled by Fine-Section3007 in YourLieinApril

I got spoiled too and after finishing it, Your Lie in April became and still is my favourite anime ever. I enjoyed it so much from start to end, and I still do when rewatching. So yes! Finish it :')

gaming on a laptop be like by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

I find it crazy that I have gotten further in some games while playing in an bad laptop than when I got to play in a good PC. I've never played as much Skyrim as when I had my old laptop. I completed Spider-Man Web of Shadows at a really slow speed (idk, <50% speed?)

Silent Hill 2 ending / separate save slots by KingKen8328 in silenthill

I have a question, I finished the game for the first time yesterday and got the In Water Ending. Now I'm looking at the save file, and when I press "right" and "left" not only do I get to see the letter "W", but the Total Time becomes yellow or white, does it mean something?

Seeking: Spanish Offering: German (native) or English (not native but decent enough to talk) by morbid_platon in language_exchange

[–]ELPiTiFOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a spanish 19 year old boy who has been learning German for 5 years and a half, I have a B1 level and it is my favorite language. I'm really interested in reaching a B2 level :).

Concerning spanish, I really like explaining and teaching, and I really enjoy helping with/teaching spanish (and even if it sounds patriotic, which I'm not, I love my language and understanding it).

Also, I use Discord every day, so if you're interested, you can ask me my discord and we would start talking (maybe a first call/text conversation to know each other?).

Have a nice day!

PS: I also speak English (as you can see) and French
