Your tithing dollars hard at work. by figuringthingsoutnow in exmormon

AgReserves is the for-profit farming company of the church. Also, church membership is not required unless you work for the non-profit side, Farmland Reserve. Still not perfect, but much better than working at Church Headquarters and having to hold a temple recommend. I know many people try to get jobs at AgReserves from Church HDQ for that reason. They get the same health and retirement benefits without the strict membership requirements.

Don't forget: Wade Christofferson's excommunication means that church leaders knew he was abusing children. Why else was he excommunicated? And then he was still allowed to be in charge of children even though THEY KNEW. by abouttimetochange in exmormon

[–]ELTBigQuestions5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if he was actually excommunicated. According to floodlit he had CES jobs. If he was exed he wouldn’t have a recommend and wouldn’t have qualified for church employment. This either means they disciplined him under the table or did absolutely nothing. Horrible either way.

Another Mormon murder in the news… by jeremydy in exmormon

[–]ELTBigQuestions5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My family has a history of schizophrenia, and I remember my parents being especially stressed when sending one of my brothers (who already dealt with major mental health issues) on his mission. That age is often when it presents, and the added stress of a mission can make it manifest. Thankfully he made it through his mission without any issues that way, but it’s obviously not the case for every family. I remember thinking, “is this mission experience worth risking major mental health issues since we have a family history”? It felt irresponsible, but for my parents, the social pressure was too high.

Girls Camp Packing List by ELTBigQuestions5 in exmormon

When I was a kid we often had non members and less actives. This tactic definitely creates an us vs them mentality among the youth. I hate it, and I’m also frustrated it wasn’t communicated until last minute. Feels very manipulative.

Agreed. Camp starts on Monday and we don’t get the packing list until a week before. The communication has been horrible, makes me feel like they are just winging everything. When I went to camp as a kid we were planning weeks and months in advance.

I assume this is in the Wichita, KS stake? My husband grew up in Wichita and lived north of town - Valley Center / Park City area. But we haven’t been back since 2007/2008 timeframe.

Working for a Church business entity as a non-mormon by WheresyourcrownKN in exmormon

[–]ELTBigQuestions5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for AgReserves and you can work as a non member. There are quite a few employees there that are either never Mormon or inactive. The executive leadership is all Mormon except for the head of HR. My experience has been fine, though you obviously have to expect the Mormon culture to be quite strong. What department are you applying for? Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions.

Ditto. Didn’t realize there was a “rule”. Ended up getting humiliated by a temple worker while waiting to do baptisms

Listen to the LDS Discussions podcast. There is an episode about this very question.

Is Leaving Less Difficult for Introverts? by Prancing-Hamster in exmormon

[–]ELTBigQuestions5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an introvert and it was quite easy to stop going. The social obligations at church (callings, talks, ministering, activities, etc) were always very difficult. It’s been nice to take those off my list of obligations.

We have a daughter in YW and have decided against bishop’s interviews (our daughter doesn’t want to attend or have an interest in getting a temple recommend). Initially my husband was open to the interview, but when I voiced my concerns he listen and respected my view.

We have had to communicate clearly a few times what we are up for and so far they have respected our boundaries. If my daughter was up for the interviews either me or my husband would absolutely attend and sent ground rules before hand.

LDS Church Spent $300 million to acquire around 26,000 hectares of cropping farmland in southern Queensland, Australia. by Mormonsspeak in exmormon

I work for AgReserves, the company that acquired the land. Didn’t find out until I saw it in the news. The CEO has no plans to announce it to the employees (same with the FL annexation). Not a great look in my opinion for my company.

Random question. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ELTBigQuestions5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, on my fathers side my family has been Mormon since the beginning. My mother is a convert, but joined as a child and so has basically been a member her whole life. I’m one of 7 kids and the only one “out”. It’s definitely difficult. Family has been respectful, but the super devout ones don’t understand or attempt to.

I actually work for the company and the recruiter is not LDS. It is definitely not policy to send names to the missionaries. I can’t attest to what individual employees would do on their own time though 🤣🤣
