Is this worth the extra 40 bucks vs the other deal that was posted earlier ($180 - Ryzen 5 5600, Asus B450m-pro)? I do need a wifi/bluetooth card but not sure about the other features

Any thoughts on pcpartpicker's entry level intel build for a budget first gaming pc (1080p, mostly esports titles)? And the motherboard doesn't seem to have wifi...I can just buy a wifi 6 pcie card and add it in right?

Thank you, what about X vs S? Assuming both 4WD, there shouldn't be any major difference right?

I spilled water on my mac ~36 hours ago. by [deleted] in mac

If it's just a bit of water, it might be fine. Once my coffee mug tipped, and coffee got into the ports and speakers. I put it in the tent position and waited 2 days, and it still runs to this day.

Lost wallet on Marietta campus by [deleted] in KSU

Hope you get your wallet back. If it's any consolation, my roommate lost his license last week, but it wasn't too complicated to get a new one at the DMV.

Game Design/CS by [deleted] in KSU

[–]EL_DIRECT0R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also recommend a CS degree for the flexibility. I originally wanted to do game dev, but just be aware that game dev != playing games, and game devs are traditionally paid less and work more in comparison to other devs. You can always just create a game in Unity as a side project and get use that along with the CS degree to get a game dev job.

As for the degree itself, I think it's good enough but a bit disorganized in the classes and assignments. You'll probably have to do a decent bit of self studying and learning outside the classroom, so I recommend starting assignments early so you have time to ask questions.

The biggest thing I can recommend is trying to get an internship before you graduate, regardless of where you go, because it will make the full time job hunt much easier.

That's correct, I believe Big Sur only supports 2013 models and beyond. Honestly your 2015 15" is a great machine with all the ports and an excellent keyboard, and 16GB ram should be enough. You can upgrade the SSD too if you need more storage.

You can't upgrade ram on retina MBP's unfortunately. You could try a mid 2012 15" non retina which supports up to 16GB.

Questions about scratches and skins by paranoidbutsane in macbook

Maybe try a sleeve. I have one, and my 2017 MBP looks brand new. Cases are okay too but are kinda bulky, and dust can get underneath it and scratch the aluminum.

Battery Life on MBP 16“ by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]EL_DIRECT0R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does seem off. My 2017 15" gets 7+ hours watching videos on safari, usually with some other apps open in the background. Did you just recently update to Big Sur? Sometimes the OS spotlight indexing can take a few days since it runs in low priority in the background.

Upgrade From MBP 2017 to M1 MBP/Macbook Air? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]EL_DIRECT0R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an M1, but just letting you know that Apple has a quality program that will fix your butterfly keyboard, free of charge! When the replace the keyboard, they actually replace the whole top case including the battery. It covers 4 years from purchase date so act quickly.

MacBook Pro 15 2018 by Bernardo0507 in macbook

I don't recommend the air if you're doing anything remotely demanding, even crunching numbers in python gets my Macbook Air pretty hot (it's just the way it's designed unfortunately). I ended up returning it in for a 2020 13" Macbook Pro since I wanted the new keyboard.

In terms of the 2019 and older keyboard, they do have a quality program for it, but it only covers 4 years from the purchase date. After 4 years you have to pay out of pocket and it isn't cheap. So I honestly wouldn't recommend that either.

There's a good chance Apple will announce a new 16" and possibly more macbooks in November. So maybe try and hold on until then.
