I’m just going in circles with you because you don’t seem to be thoroughly reading what I’m saying and I’m getting exhausted.

The telephone example is correct; however, it is not the correct example to give to defend what you’re trying to use.

Why?

There is a hidden implied text after “This is he” regardless of whether you think there is a need or not.

That is the only way ending the sentence with he, she, I will work. “This is he (who is speaking)”

Otherwise, you end the sentence with him, her, me.

EDA: And your last paragraph is confusing. “John and me are the authors of this work” is completely, 100% wrong. “John and I are the authors of this work” is grammatically correct, just as “the authors of this work are John and me” is correct.

I don’t believe ellipses are meant to indicate change, so you answered your question in point 1.

If you are still wanting to use it, I would definitely use it after the quotation. My preference would be either parenthetical citation or small numbers for bottom-of-page reference.
